Rand McNally GPSRand McNally has been hit with a class action lawsuit from consumers who claim that the company’s TND Tablet 80 Truck GPS fails to work as advertised.

Plaintiff James Van Zeeland claims that he purchased a new TND Tablet 80 from Rand McNally for $449.99 in May 2019.

Van Zeeland states that he wanted a reliable, accurate and quality navigation GPS system and was led to believe that Rand McNally has such a product.

The plaintiff says he has experienced numerous problems with his TND Tablet 80, such as the GPS system displaying his location on a parallel or nonexistent road, directing him to an incorrect location, and taking him in the opposite direction.

While driving through cities, the TND Tablet 80 would allegedly “spin and jump between overpasses and underpasses.” The plaintiff argues that this defect left him without a reliable method to navigate through cities to his destination.

The plaintiff claims that he has experienced these problems most of the time that he used this GPS system. Van Zeeland also claims that he attempted to use the TND Tablet 80 in numerous trucks and even his personal vehicle, but he experienced the same problems.

Van Zeeland reportedly contacted Rand McNally to complain about the problems that he was encountering with his GPS system, but was met with a pre-recorded statement that Rand McNally was aware of the problems with the tablet, such as no GPS signal or providing incorrect directions and was working on alleviating the problem.

In August 2019, Van Zeeland claims that he spoke to a representative at Rand McNally and was sent a new mount for the TND Tablet 80 called a “slice.” However, the plaintiff claims that the slice did not fix the problem.

When he contacted the defendant again to address the issue, he was allegedly told by another representative to reset his TND Tablet 80. After resetting the GPS system, the product reportedly still did not work and the plaintiff requested a refund from the defendant.

In October 2019, the plaintiff claims that he contacted Rand McNally to request a refund and was told that the problem was not with the product, but the conditions in the truck. The defendant allegedly refused to provide him with a refund.

“The TND Tablet 80’s frequent and persistent failures have rendered it useless and Van Zeeland been forced to stop using it,” the Rand McNally class action lawsuit claims.

“Had Defendant’s advertisements, statements, or other materials and communications informed Van Zeeland of the defective TND Tablet 80 and the lack of any fix, as well as Defendant’s refusal to remedy the problems, Van Zeeland would not have opted to purchase the TND Tablet 80, much less pay the amount he did for it.”

The plaintiff claims to have suffered loss as a result of the defendant’s misconduct including the $449.99 that he paid to purchase the product.

Proposed Class Members include: “All current and former purchasers of the Rand McNally TND Tablet 80.”

Hardly used it and it’s absolutely worthless
Never ever will recommend there products. I should have listened to my other truckers.

  3. Mike R Wall says:

Thank God my phone has a reliable GPS. Anytime I approach a destination I will make sure my phone is showing it also because the tnd 80 is basically useless at best, downright dangerous at worst. Putting you on the wrong road or street, being a mile off showing current location and just locking up. Totally worthless.

    1. Chester Davis says:

I is dangerous because it will send down a wrong street or road.

  4. Ahmed Mohamed says:

I had all the defects mentioned above and lately I got a message which is saying the GPS is not responding. Watched all of videos online to fix the issue but still not able . Bought it less than year ago . Such a useless and waste of money

  5. Kelly Ramsey says:

I literally bought the GPS the T8 Trucking addition and literally I had it one week I was told to send it in and they sent me a used 1 didn’t return any of my accessories or spicing thing on the back But the one they sent me had the same problem and when I complain they didn’t send me a new 1 but a used 1 they said because I had opened the package and tried to use it it was considered used even though I had the receipt for less than 1 week I was given a model same exact 1 but same exact problem no problem They fixed I literally still have that GPSI have 2 of them in my truck because I was replacing one that wouldn’t hold a charge but now I have 2 and I have to have them both running at the same time in different positions on the truck just do sometimes get AGPS that will actually complete a whole job.. I will literally never buy another ram mcnally after this fiasco I’m just waiting for these ones to actually dye because spending 5 $600 on AGPS is not something I want to do..

I HAVE THE TND 750 AND IT HAS NO GPS SIGNAL EVEN AFTER MANY FACTORY RESETS AND SUCH IT WILL NOT WORK

  7. Alexander Nemirovsky says:

It fails one way or another every other day

  8. Patrick M. Malone says:

I have an RVT 80 Tablet and it does the same thing. Shows me off the road, looses GPS signal, has not had update in 2-3 years. I thought being Rand McNally leading map provider they have it together and if an issue arose they would have software updates. Wrong they just give you the run around. If this class action is still open add me to the list. I payed good money $500.

    1. Junior Dominique says:

My Rand McNally be doing the same thing the truck icon be acting drunk all over the place

      1. Chester Davis says:

I would like to be named in the law suit.

  9. Jean-Pierre (JP) Richer says:

I have had my share of problems with my Rand McNally TND80 and honestly when the representative told me to read the fine print after I noticed that the maps were not being updated after using the unit for less than 2 years. Well, apparently, the warranty period is 18 months. After that good luck about any support from them. I will NEVER buy another RandMcnally product again. At best if I could use the tablet just as any other android device, I could run other applications such as Truckpath or Co-pilot but the OS from Rand is too heavy and you can’t seem to be able to delete any of their stuff….
    So, what’s next ? don’t know.

  10. Krzysztof Dryja says:

I just purchased the rm t80 refurbished and only after a few days of using it it does everything to me as with every comment has said it also can’t find roads that have been there for over 50 years or addresses that have been established long before the digital era. What a garbage piece of equipment that a “map maker” has introduced to us
