A recall has been made on more than 390,000 hyundai vehicles.

Hyundai has announced two recalls totaling more than 390,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada, over concerns two separate issues could lead to engine fires.

The largest recall includes more than 203,000 2013-2015 Santa Fe Sport SUVs, some of which are being recalled for a second time. The vehicles have raised safety concerns due to leaking brake fluid which can cause an electrical short and spark a fire in the anti-lock brake computer, CBS News reports.

So far, the issue has caused 18 fires in the US, but no injuries.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging vehicle owners to park their SUVs outside away from structures until the issue is fixed, which will be completed by dealers replacing a fuse and the computer system if necessary. Vehicle owners will be notified in June, CBS News says.

“Hyundai is conducting this new recall to ensure the safety of its customers,” the company said in a statement.

In the second recall, Hyundai is recalling almost 187,000 of its 2019 and 2020 Elantras, and 2019 through 2021 Konas and Velosters – all models with two-liter engines.

The company says that piston rings in the vehicles may not have been properly heat treated, which can lead to chipping that scuffs the engine cylinder. The problem can cause engine damage, oil leaks, and possible fires, CBS News reports.

So far, the problem has caused five fires, but no injuries, the company says.

Vehicles owners will be notified in late-June about remedies. Hyundai dealers will inspect vehicles and replace the engine if necessary, and will install piston noise sensing software, CBS News reports.

In March, Hyundai reached a settlement with consumers over numerous class action lawsuits that claimed that the automaker ignored and even denied repairs to certain vehicles with engine defects that led to car fires.

The engine defect class action settlement provides the following benefits to Class members: warranty extension, reimbursement for past repairs, reimbursement for expenses from past repairs, compensation for a sold or trade-in vehicle, compensation for loss of vehicle to engine fine, rebate program for trade-ins, and an informational pamphlet.

Hyundai is also facing a new class action lawsuit over allegations its popular and high-end Palisade SE, SEL, and Limited emit such a strong, foul smell in the cabin it makes some passengers nauseous.

My 2013 Santa Fe went out on December 12, 2021. Car started losing power on the highway luckily was able to get off. Smoke came out on the roof and the car was total dead. Not knowing what the problem the car was toll to a nearby shop. The shop turned the engine the piston cane off and put two holes in the engine. Hyundai won’t honor having the car repairs at a third party.

Had my 2013 sonata engine replaced in June 2022 under warranty. Yesterday my ikids took it to a local shop because they smelled gas before hitting to row to come home from college. Car was visibly leaking gas from the top of the engine. Sals guy at the dealer where I bought and had the car repairs laughed at us on the phone. My kids could have been killed.

I just got a recall letter. I have a 2019 Hyundai. The engine light went on and then clicked off. It’s been running hot. Waiting for parts to come in. Almost scared to drive it now.

  6. E. Sibley says:

I own a 2019 Kona and my dual clutch had to be replaced and the dealer stated they had to replace to transmission in order to “repair” my vehicle.

I later had to have some sort of engine replacement.

Wish I never purchased my Kona

  7. Deborah Palmer says:

I owned a 2011 hyundai sonata until yesterday. At impact, the airbag exploded and caught fire (no large flames but lots of smoking). The airbag contents burned my arms.

  8. Charletta Duncan says:

I own a 2011 hyundai 2.0 sonata smell oil, and it’s like it’s losing power all by itself. I excelerate and it seems to be braking slowing down by itself

Please add me. I have a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe Ultimate sport 2.0

  10. Kathy Lewis says:

I have a 2020 Elantra and it has been making a weird noise, the engine seems to jerk at times. When I bought it, it supposedly only had 16 miles on it but I was thinking they rolled back the mileage because I’ve never bought a brand new car to only have issues right away. Unfortunately, I had 3 other cars through GM that I am in the middle of law suit. I am saddened that there are so many issues with these vehicles. It’s putting to many lives at risk and they should be paying closer attention to what they are doing instead of being consumed with getting more out faster to make more money. It’s really sad! Please add me & is there somewhere I can check vin number to see?
