honda infotainment screenA class action lawsuit claims that the infotainment display screens in 2017 to 2019 Honda CR-V vehicles possess a defect that cause them to malfunction and become inoperable.

The Honda display screen class action lawsuit was filed by Tony Woo, Daniel Rifkin, and Douglas P. Schwert who say they all purchased Honda vehicles equipped with a defective display system.

The drivers allege that they did not become aware of the defect until after they purchased the vehicle. The plaintiffs say they tried to get the defect repaired, but Honda did not offer a repair, saying the problem was out of scope of the vehicles’ warranty.

The Honda display screen class action lawsuit claims that the display screen defect affects CR-V model years 2017 through 2019 of the EX, EX-L, and Touring vehicles. Allegedly, the display controls many important functions of the vehicle, including safety features, information, communication, and entertainment features.

The display screen is reportedly considered standard equipment in the 2017 through 2019 vehicles. The drivers say that the display screens possess a common defect that causes them to malfunction in a number of ways. Allegedly, the defective screens freeze, or go into full bright mode during night time.

The Honda class action lawsuit says these problems pose a possible danger to drivers and passengers because they can cause distraction. Allegedly, when the screen malfunctions, it can call drivers’ attention from the road and to the screen, which can lead to drivers getting in collisions.

The Honda display screen defect class action lawsuit says Honda knew of the defect in the screens since at least 2018, but has not disclosed the issue to customers. Allegedly, the company shared knowledge of the defect with car dealers’ service departments and not the sales departments. Dealers were reportedly instructed not to inform prospective customers of the defect.

To further support the claim that Honda was aware of the defect, the Honda infotainment system class action lawsuit says that many customers have complained to the company about the problem. Allegedly, Honda is well aware of these complaints.

The drivers claim that Honda does not repair the displays screen defect within the warranty, and does not successfully repair the defect when asked to do so. Allegedly, this causes drivers financial injury and requires them to spend significant time to repair the defect.

The drivers seek damages on behalf of themselves and all similarly affected customers, saying that had they known that the vehicles have a defective display screen, they would not have purchased the vehicles, or would not have paid as much as they did for them.

I too have a problem with the head unit malfunctioning. It dims by itself, locks up and even blacks out. Only way to correct the issue is to reset the head unit. Now, it is also affect the dash lighting as well.

I have a Honda crv touring 2019. My screen started blanking out several months after I purchased it. Yesterday it went completely insane. Blinking on and off with the brightness there is nothing I could do to make it stop! It would not turn off I finally had to pull off the side of the road and turn off my car. I am so disappointed I paid so I had for this car and it doesn’t work properly

2018 Civic Touring model. First problem I noticed under warrenty was the maintenance minder functions on the touch screen no longer worked. Dealership said they had no idea what the problem was but informed me that I could use the steering wheel controls instead. Now out of warranty the Home Screen is blank.

2019 Honda CRV: I just bought it 6 months ago. It is still under a limited warranty so when it started blinking and beeping, I took it back to the dealership. Honda did an update and that only lasted for about 2 months. Had I known of this problem I would’ve bought a Toyota. I’m so disappointed.

  7. Elizabeth Mertz says:

I am going to Honda with my 2019 CRV for the 5th time today. Close to the end of the warranty. 4 times have been for the black screen or half functioning/non working screen. They told me to do a factory restart myself the first time, then they blamed a dealer that fixed on “o” ring recall and then they did the Honda service bulletin # 19-066. All of the incidents have happened between October 4, 2021 and February 13, 2022. This time a radar warning came on while driving on the turnpike. Only 1,400 more miles and I’m out of the warranty.

  8. Denise Duez says:

Having similar screen problems with Our 2018 CRV. Could not turn radio off, fan speed display missing, would not connect to phone for navigation, source selection not responding to touch along with other items on screen. Also cannot turn volume down with radio dial or steering g wheel control.

  9. Paz V says:

My display screen is not showing. I have a Honda CRV 2018— bought brand new from Honda Way in Abbotsford BC Canada. March 2018. I’m going tomorrow to have it fixed. Let’s see what they say. This issue has been on and off for 2 weeks.

  10. B. Heck says:

Went out to scrape ice off my windshield this morning and lo and behold – a black screen. No radio, no back-up camera, nothing. I did get a message about the system not functioning, which was pretty clear since the screen was black. It used to be that the brightness controls popped up randomly on the screen and blinked bright and dark, and that was usually while I was driving. But this is a new kind of monster
