Lennox HVAC may not be a high quality product.

Lennox HVAC systems may be of poor quality, according to consumer reviews of home appliances on websites like the Better Business Bureau’s.

What Is an HVAC System?

“HVAC” stands for heating, ventilation and air conditioning and are found in most new homes. HVAC systems may vary depending on their age and brand, but most modern systems are forced-air.

When cooling air, HVAC systems use a refrigerant to cool the indoor air. This air is then cycled back through the home. This process continues until the air in the home reaches the temperature chosen on the thermostat.

Heating air uses a similar process but, unlike air conditioning, relies on gas and a pilot light to create heat instead of using a refrigerant or other chemical. After cool air is heated through the burner system, air is distributed through air ducts until the house warms to the desired temperature.

Regardless of exactly how a home’s HVAC system works, most consumers want their heating and cooling appliance to be of high quality. Whether they need to stay warm in the winter or avoid the summer heat, a quality HVAC system is essential to a homeowner’s comfort. Unfortunately, not all HVAC systems are up to par – leaving some consumers literally out in the cold or stuck in the heat.

Are Lennox HVAC Systems Good Quality?

According to the manufacturer, Lennox HVAC systems have been “engineered to deliver best-in-class comfort and efficiency” and can provide “truly outstanding” results when two or more Lennox products are used together.

Unfortunately, despite these promises, some consumers have reported serious problems with their Lennox HVAC systems. Several consumers have taken to online forums such as the Better Business Bureau to detail their problems with an HVAC system from Lennox.

In September, one complaint detailed a problem with the evaporator coil in an air conditioning system. Unfortunately, the reviewer said that Lennox has failed to get back to them about fixing the problem under warranty.

Another complaint from August said that, since having a roof unit installed five years ago, the homeowner has had a significant service bill each year “without fail.” This year, the homeowner’s system allegedly showed issues with the evaporator coil leaking. Even after spending up to $2,000 each year on repairs, the homeowner was allegedly told they would need to pay nearly $9,000 to fix this year’s evaporator coil problem.

“Every year we are spending 1,000 to 2,000 on repairs and maintenance for this unit,” the complaint revealed. “These are the worst A/C units.”

Unfortunately, problems with a Lennox HVAC system could prove costly – as shown in the complaint above. Repairs can run thousands of dollars with additional money required to resolve damage from leaks or other problems.

Lennox HVAC may not be a high quality product. Is There a Lennox HVAC Class Action Settlement?

In 2015, Lennox Industries Inc. agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that their evaporator coils were defective.

Plaintiffs in the Lennox class action lawsuit claimed that these evaporator coils were made with copper tubing – a design flaw which reportedly resulted in corrosion. This corrosion was reportedly caused by a chemical reaction with the coils that lead to microscopic tunnels in the products. As a result, the evaporator coils allegedly leaked refrigerant.

The plaintiffs argued that Lennox should have been aware of this issue and taken steps to fix it, including coating evaporator coils to reduce corrosion and subsequent leakage.

Lennox didn’t admit any wrongdoing but agreed to a class action settlement to resolve the claims against them. The deal benefited individuals who purchased a Lennox brand, Aire-Flo brand, Armstrong Air brand, AirEase brand, Concord brand, or Ducane brand evaporator coil covered by warranty between Oct. 29, 2007 and July 9, 2015.

The settlement provided several forms of relief including a $75 service rebate, replacement of defective coils, and up to $1100 in labor reimbursement for original or replacement coils.

Although this Lennox HVAC class action settlement resolved claims surrounding the company’s evaporator coils, consumers may still be able to take legal action or join a pending class action lawsuit against the company.

Can I File a Lennox Class Action Lawsuit?

If you experienced issues with your Lennox HVAC system, you may be eligible to take legal action against the manufacturer. In some cases, this could mean filing your own lawsuit or class action lawsuit against Lennox. However, you could also be eligible to join an existing case as an additional plaintiff.

Filing a Lennox HVAC class action lawsuit could be your way to secure compensation for property damage and other issues resulting from a product defect. An experienced HVAC attorney can review your case to see if you’re eligible.

My unit has damaged evaporator coils.

  2. REBECCA GENTRY says:

My “premiere” Lennox HVAC has needed so many repairs I have an entire folder stuffed of the paper trail I’ve collected over 10 years. I’m experiencing the same situation as many other consumers. My unit was sold by Costco and I thought since they’re a reputable company, they would sell and stand behind solid products. I was mistaken. The amount of time I have spent dealing with these issues and scheduling service calls is maddening. I’m missing work to be home for service calls! Now my warranty is expired and even the credit card extended warranty doesn’t want anything to do with this lemon of a unit! My problems started just months after installation. The system had a loud bang at start-up, the compressor was replaced, the fan was replaced, the refrigerant leaked, and now it won’t heat. Plus, many other issues and expenses in labor and parts. Just help somebody!

  3. JP says:

My system is only four years old and have been services 11 times with no power and draining flow issues. In the last 12 months alone I spent over 3100.00 in repair and for a system to control moisture issues. I dont make much money this is killing me. each time I have to take the day off or half a day off to wait for someone to come and they are still coming at least two to three time a year. the system is out now
I dont know what to do here. I must have spent at least 7k in repairs in four years starting less then 30 days after move in.

  4. Rory Kelley says:

Coil problems been replaced but out labor costs. Now compressor and high pressure problems. More labor coast. Why I let my AC people sell me a Lennox unit I don’t know. Wish I had my old Trane.

  5. Robert Wike says:

Lennox evaporator coil is leaking refrigerant exactly 10 years and 2 months after installation. Of course Lennox states the warranty has expired. Yet this problem occurred once before the warranty had expired, but Lennox will not accept this. The estimated cost to replace the evaporator coil s $2,500 by a local repair company, with just a one year part warranty.
I’d much rather replace the entire system with anything other than a Lennox than pay for replacing the evaporator coil.
    How do I join?

  6. Y.Hohokabe says:

Our Lennox Elite Unit has installed in 2017, the evaporator coil failed to leak out all freon in summer 2019. Our service company replaced the coil under warranty in 2020, freon recharge costed about $400. That replaced coil was also defective one, we have the coil problem again on June 2023, AC doesn’t brow cool air because all freon leaked out again. We are dealing with our service company to replace to improved good coil, and we contacted Lennox consumer afire to confirm our unit is covered by extended 10 year warranty, but the service company seemed neglected or abandoned our complaint, they stopped communicate with us. So we have on going problem for coil replacement. As of OCT. 5, it has been past three month since our AC failed, we have no AC, no coil replacement, no repair. Please help!

  7. Roy Smith says:

My 7 year old Lennox Elite unit’s evaporator coil leaked and needs replacement. The part is still under warranty; however, labor and refrigerant will cost $2500-$3000. In addition, the part was ordered 5 days ago, but still no ETA. Please help!

  8. Tracy says:

Just found out our unit installed back in 2015 has the coil issue…have already spent 650 bucks in the last 3 days having refridgerate pumped in..Monday The repair guy will be calling lennox…if anyone wants to join a class action, there seems to be enough folks being screwed by Lennox it might be feasible

    1. Jon says:

Same here. How do I join

  9. Steve Hicks says:

Bought new home in AZ, early 2017. It has a LENNOX A/C and Heating system, as does the other 130 or so homes in our development, many of which have had the same issue occur too, that I will describe. The A/C evaporative coil in the attic began leaking refrigerant this year, due to it being constructed with the corrosive copper which LENNOX had previously in 2015 settled a class action lawsuit because of this manufacturing. I had to pay several thousand dollars to have the unit replaced. I contacted LENNOX with the old part serial number which was manufactured and installed in 2016, a year after the previous lawsuit. LENNOX stated they had met their 5 year part warranty, and would not do anything; however, the new replacement coil is made with a different material that should last 15 to 20 years like the original defectively constructed part should have. They also said if I had registered this coil back in 2017, they would have extended the warranty to 10 years, where the part would have been covered but my builder or the installing A/C and Heating company did not tell me to do this. If there is another class action lawsuit, I would like to be part of it and can probably have a few other neighbors join too.

  10. Amy Myser says:

Myself and several neighbors have experienced corrosion in our hvac coil system leaking all Freon. Ours are 9 yrs old, but to have a 10 yr warranty. Had to replace at $4200. I live in Texas and this year over 26 consecutive days triple digits and more to come! Would be happy to join you all!
