electrolux fridgidaire dehumidifierA class action lawsuit claims that Electrolux Frigidaire dehumidifiers possess a defect that causes them to display an “F0” error message on their control panel, which makes the devices useless.

The Electrolux dehumidifier class action lawsuit was filed by Felix Obertman who says he purchased an Electrolux Frigidaire dehumidifier from a Best Buy store for around $400.

The plaintiff claims that the Electrolux dehumidifier does not work for its advertised purpose which he discovered after starting to use the device.

The Electrolux dehumidifier class action says that an error message occurs on the dehumidifier’s screen that reads “F0,” and when this message appears, the dehumidifier stops working.

This message reportedly appears during what should be part of the useful life of the device. After Obertman experienced this defect, he allegedly threw the small appliance in the trash because he felt it was “useless.”

Obertman says he was financially injured by Electrolux because had he known that the dehumidifier didn’t work, he would not have purchased it at all.

He argues that Electrolux should have disclosed the defect to consumers. He also says that he would consider purchasing Electrolux products in the future if he could be sure that they would perform as advertised.

As it stands, Obertman cannot be sure that Electrolux products will be free of defects in the future, so he requests legal intervention requiring the company to stop selling defective dehumidifiers as if they are functioning normally, as he claims the company does.

The Electrolux class action lawsuit says that Obertman relied on advertisements and the packaging for the product in order to make his purchasing decision and nowhere in the marketing does Electrolux disclose a defect.

Allegedly, the devices are still on the market and Electrolux has not yet acknowledged the problem. According to Obertman, Electrolux knows that the dehumidifiers are defective and actively conceals this fact. Obertman points to numerous consumer reviews and complaints made against the company to support this claim.

The Electrolux dehumidifier defect class action lawsuit says that these complaints go back as far as four years, and have been consistent at least over the last four years.

Obertman says that Electrolux put profits ahead of the interest of customers and tricked them into purchasing a defective product by misrepresenting it. In addition to damages, Obertman seeks for Electrolux to be forced to disgorge the profits he claims were unjustly gained from the sale of the dehumidifiers.

He is seeking damages for himself and on behalf of all similarly affected consumers.

Electrolux has recently faced other class action lawsuits, one over a faulty microwave handle and the other claimed its washing machines suffered from a mold defect.

Obertman is represented by L. Timothy Fisher and Joel D. Smith of Bursor & Fisher PA.

The Electrolux Dehumidifier Class Action Lawsuit is Felix Obertman v. Electrolux Home Care Products Inc., Case No. 2:19-at-01164, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

  7. Paul Keller says:

II have had 3 frigidaire dehumidifiers and all failed inside the warranty period with the “FO” message – In one case I got a free replacement and it failed as well. Didn’t get another free replacement because the warranty for the original failure had expired. The 3rd one was at a rental – in that case I got a refund and bought a different replacement brand.
