electrolux fridgidaire dehumidifierA class action lawsuit claims that Electrolux Frigidaire dehumidifiers possess a defect that causes them to display an “F0” error message on their control panel, which makes the devices useless.

The Electrolux dehumidifier class action lawsuit was filed by Felix Obertman who says he purchased an Electrolux Frigidaire dehumidifier from a Best Buy store for around $400.

The plaintiff claims that the Electrolux dehumidifier does not work for its advertised purpose which he discovered after starting to use the device.

The Electrolux dehumidifier class action says that an error message occurs on the dehumidifier’s screen that reads “F0,” and when this message appears, the dehumidifier stops working.

This message reportedly appears during what should be part of the useful life of the device. After Obertman experienced this defect, he allegedly threw the small appliance in the trash because he felt it was “useless.”

Obertman says he was financially injured by Electrolux because had he known that the dehumidifier didn’t work, he would not have purchased it at all.

He argues that Electrolux should have disclosed the defect to consumers. He also says that he would consider purchasing Electrolux products in the future if he could be sure that they would perform as advertised.

As it stands, Obertman cannot be sure that Electrolux products will be free of defects in the future, so he requests legal intervention requiring the company to stop selling defective dehumidifiers as if they are functioning normally, as he claims the company does.

The Electrolux class action lawsuit says that Obertman relied on advertisements and the packaging for the product in order to make his purchasing decision and nowhere in the marketing does Electrolux disclose a defect.

Allegedly, the devices are still on the market and Electrolux has not yet acknowledged the problem. According to Obertman, Electrolux knows that the dehumidifiers are defective and actively conceals this fact. Obertman points to numerous consumer reviews and complaints made against the company to support this claim.

The Electrolux dehumidifier defect class action lawsuit says that these complaints go back as far as four years, and have been consistent at least over the last four years.

Obertman says that Electrolux put profits ahead of the interest of customers and tricked them into purchasing a defective product by misrepresenting it. In addition to damages, Obertman seeks for Electrolux to be forced to disgorge the profits he claims were unjustly gained from the sale of the dehumidifiers.

He is seeking damages for himself and on behalf of all similarly affected consumers.

Electrolux has recently faced other class action lawsuits, one over a faulty microwave handle and the other claimed its washing machines suffered from a mold defect.

The pump does not turn on on my Electrolux FFAP7033T1 even though the indicator light shows that it is on. Literature states that it can stand on the floor and pump condensate out a window. I have it on a shelf so that there is almost no change in level at all. It does not show an error code.

Mistake in my last post – the older 70 pint dehumidifiers are now rated at 50 pints, not as I stated.

  3. Cal Stanley says:

Dehumidifier ratings have changed in the past few years. What used to be rated as a 50 pint unit is now rated as a 70 pint unit due to testing being done at a different ambient temperature. Anyway, Frigidaire dehumidifier #1 was a 50 pint unit with great ratings on the internet (for whatever that’s worth). Purchased in June – ran through October – started again in May – quit running in June. Replaced on warranty. New unit (#2) ran July through October year one and May through July year two. I thought I should get another unit for free since the total run time of the two I had still didn’t meet the Frigidaire warranty time frame. It didn’t look like they would send me another one so I looked for a replacement model to buy. I checked a number of sites online and the “new” 70 pint Frigidaire was still rated as the best unit available. So, as stupid as it sounds, I purchased the new and improved model and put it into service June of 2020 (#3). About one month later I received my second warranty replacement unit (this time the 70 pint version) and put it aside. This past weekend (May 2021) unit #3 failed (this time code EC instead of FO) and I put my spare (#4) in service. So I’ll try again to get a warranty replacement since the one that failed this time was the second one that I actually purchased. My experience has been that these things will give you about 8 months of actual service before they fail and work really well for that short period of time they actually work. And, no, I won’t be stupid enough to buy the next new and improved Frigidaire dehumidifier.

My experiences exactly. This is what happens when our government decides what we should buy. The older units in my opinion worked much better at removing moisture and lasted much longer. How did we end up with computerized dehumidifiers that heat the up a room to hellish temps that has a useful life of only 8 months on average? I remember having units in the past that lasted 15 years or more before even needing a charge. It’s very depressing.

      1. Chris Cady says:

Why is the government responsible for crappy machines built to a price point because consumers will buy anything to save a nickel? It’s a race to the bottom.

I bought a Frigidaire because I trusted the name, having owned other Frigidaire appliances. Mine doesn’t have an F0 message but it doesn’t remove much water from the air. The old one – a random brand rated probably half the pints – pulled out 5 gal in 24 hrs. This one takes a week to get that much! And the stupid fan runs whether the compressor is running or not.

Can you add me to the lawsuit?

  5. Steve Braun says:

Have the same F0 error code problem. Unplug it, power it back up and only runs for couple hours then does the F0 shut down. Would like to find out how to get satisfaction regarding this.

  6. Pamela Bebenroth says:

My dehumidifier is giving the FO code and does not run. This started occurring in the last 6 weeks. If I unplug it and plug it back in it runs for a couple of hours and then repeats the FO code and shuts down.

How do I get added to the class action suite?

    1. Mark Menich says:

I have the same FO code. How can I be added to this class action suite

  7. Mike Brown says:

I have the same problem with my unit,ie FO code. This is the third brand i have tryed, all had the same problem. As a result i now have powdery mold in my 60k fifth wheel . It is unclear at this time if i can resolve the problem and use the rv.

  8. david cowles says:

we bought a electrolux dehumidifier and after 10 months it started throwing an fo code. model number ffad7033r1. i would like to be added to the law suit.

  9. Shannon McAdams says:

My electrolux dryer (manufacture date May 2018) burns fabrics even on the low setting and the grate is discolored. We have used it correctly and have melted black plastic type circular marks on many items including handmade items that cannot be replaced. This dryer is AFTER their previous class action settlement and is not included yet they are still manufacturing faulty and dangerous machines.
