The Home Depot Inc. has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit with consumers whose email or payment card information was stolen as a result of a data breach.

If you used a credit or debit card at a self-checkout lane in a Home Depot store between Apr. 10, 2014 and Sept. 13, 2014 or received notice from Home Depot that your information was compromised as a result of the data breach, you may be entitled to benefits from the data breach class action settlement.

In September 2014, Home Depot announced that it had been affected by a data breach that compromised the credit and debit card information from customers who used a self-checkout counter at U.S. Home Depot stores. The criminals also allegedly obtained a separate file that contained email addresses of some Home Depot customers.

The retailer was subsequently hit with several Home Depot data breach class action lawsuits filed by customers who claimed Home Depot failed to adequately safeguard their payment card and personal information. The plaintiffs also alleged that Home Depot did not provide affected customers with timely notice of the data breach.

Home Depot denies the allegations but agreed to settle the data breach class action lawsuit to avoid the cost and uncertainty of trial.

Home Depot has agreed to establish a $13 million Settlement Fund to provide compensation to consumer with documented losses linked to the Home Depot data breach. Home Depot has also agreed to provide 18 months of free identity monitoring services to customers who used a credit or debit card at a self-checkout lane in a Home Depot store.

Class Members who want to opt out of or object to the Home Depot class action settlement must do so no later than July 18, 2016.

  3. Rona says:

If you indeed have a valid claim, I’d contact class counsel. And why did you wait so long to inquire into this now? The 1st payments went out March 31. But there are funds set aside for those with valid claims, that choose to still make claims against the settlement fund, I believe $50k. (Correct me if im wrong tca) I don’t know what type of process you go through to make a claim against those funds, or if your claim qualify as valid, but I read it in the settlement agreement. I’m saying that to say this, once everyone gets their second check and the charites get their money, the funds wont be fully exausted. There will be at least $50k you an a few that didn’t get checks might have a shot at. I can go back an get exact wording an pages if need be. Follow up with the attorneys and Administrator, if you sent in documented proof, I don’t see why you didn’t get a check.

Info at homedepotdatasettlement dot com The exact same one that’s listed in the article above and that’s on the settlement website. There is no other email besides that one that I’m aware of. You can also try contacting class counsel as well.

  4. Rona says:

Received email from administrator saying my payment would be mailed by end of this week. That’s all the email said. But I’m sure if mines is going out everyone else’s is also. That’s all I have for that. The only thing filed on the docket lately was an appeal for the financial institutions part of the settlement a few days ago. Doesn’t pertain to our part of the settlement. So if checks are going out end of week. We should start seeing them middle to end of next week.

    1. Contessa says:

I received an email as well saying the same.

    2. Jenn says:

Thanks for the info Rona. You are awesome!

      1. Rona says:

It took about a week for me to get a response from them letting me kno my payment was mailed. Maybe it’s only one person responding to emails and tons coming in, idk. You may get a faster response by calling the main office for the administrator KCC, google their main number.

  5. Rona says:

As of today I didn’t see anything new filed on the docket as today made 90 days for them to update the courts as to a status of disbursments. I haven’t read anything either about checks being issued from any credible source, although they may be in the process. I haven’t checked with the Administrator because today is just the 18th. I would give it at least another week.

    1. Vika S says:

Any info in the dockets today?/

      1. Rona says:

No new entries on the docket as of today. I have emailed the administrator for a update on distribution, but haven’t got any response yet.

        1. Mike V says:

Is there any new info on the second payment?
