Wal-Mart MoneyCard

A settlement has been proposed in a class action lawsuit alleging consumers with Green Dot prepaid debit cards and certain Green Dot-issued Walmart MoneyCards experienced a longer-than-anticipated service disruption, causing them to be unable to access their accounts.

If you had a Green Dot prepaid debit card or Walmart MoneyCard on May 14, 2016, you may be entitled to benefits from the Green Dot class action settlement.

According to the Green Dot MoneyCard class action lawsuit, technical issues occurred during a processor conversion, causing some holders of Green Dot prepaid debit cards and Walmart MoneyCards issued by Green Dot to experience a disruption in service from May 15, 2016 through May 22, 2016.

The service disruption was longer than expected and allegedly caused some consumers to be denied access to their accounts.

The Green Dot class action lawsuit alleges Green Dot entered into an agreement with MasterCard International Incorporated under which MasterCard became the new processing services provider for Green Dot. As part of this conversion process, Green Dot cardholders were informed that they would be unable to access their accounts for a 12-hour period beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on May 14, 2016.

However, the service disruption allegedly caused some Green Dot cardholders to lose access to their accounts until May 22, 2016. Approximately 58,600 customers were reportedly affected by this longer-than-anticipated Green Dot service disruption.

“During the Service Disruption, Plaintiffs and Class members were unable to spend or withdraw their funds in their respective Green Dot Prepaid Card accounts needed for the basic necessities of life, such as food, clothing and shelter,” the Green Dot class action lawsuit alleges. During this Green Dot service disruption, some cardholders were allegedly unable to pay their household bills and incurred late fees.

The defendants deny the allegations but agreed to settle the Green Dot MoneyCard class action lawsuit to avoid the burden and expense of ongoing litigation.

Class Members who would like to object to or exclude themselves from the Green Dot MoneyCard class action settlement must do so no later than Sept. 26, 2017.

Who’s Eligible

Class Members of the Green Dot settlement include cardholders who attempted but were unable to use their Green Dot-issued MasterCard-processed cards to access their account funds between May 15, 2016 and May 22, 2016 because of the service disruption.

      1. Natalie says:

Is that what you filed for? Because I was told if you file for the 750 and there was a problem they would contact you. I know it will be minus the 50 they’ve already given me because that’s what they deposited in my account when it first happened

  5. Linda says:

This is the worst settlement case I’ve seen. Taking people money off cards! No excuses. Investigation need to be done. Can’t reach by email & even phone. Not telling anyone anything. We know it takes several months for the settlement administrator but he or she should let somebody know something. Its been two months now!

    1. Nita says:

      Yes I agree!!!

    2. Natalie says:

I called the administrators and have finally escalated my inquiry because it’s been 3 weeks and still they can’t tell me any information about this case so hopefully they will give some information soon from what I understand there were no appeals or objections and the money should not be delayed in being issued. I asked if I could call anyone else for information since they couldn’t give me any and it had taken so long but she just kept telling me they are the ones that are handling it

  6. Joy metzgar says:

Yes. I am having the similar problem. I purchased a MoneyPak card, loaded it and than tried to create a login to access the money I put on it but I can’t access it. It looks like I almost set up an account, I received my text verification and than nothing. It repeatedly won’t let me login, won’t send me any email verification and the system just keeps repeating itself. I tried calling geeen dot and I can’t get past there computer to talk to a live person. MoneyPak is a scam. I can’t get my money back nor even try to use it. Why is this even sold at a store? This company is stealing money from people.

  7. Diane says:

I have not received any notice or check to date. Have they even started processing them? I too have a claim number.

    1. Top Class Actions says:

The claim deadline was 2/8/18. It will more than likely take the settlement administrator several months to review and process claims.

      1. Natalie says:

I called the settlement administrator and they have no information on the claims they have escalated my inquiry to the next higher up person but it’s been 3 weeks and they still cannot tell me anything about the case

  8. Kenneth Dasta says:

    1. Natalie Hebert says:

I finally figured out the number for the administrator and called and after waiting on hold for an eternity they said they would get back with me in a week. I had a claim number so I know I definitely a part of, the settlement so frustrating

    2. Nita says:

To date 3/21/2018 I have not received an email or any notices..

  10. Marolyn Dalcour says:

You all need to bring another lawsuit against Wal-Mart money card. Now they are not letting people activate new cards. I have money on one and have uploaded my ID several times also emailed them with my ID attached to the email. This has been on going for 8 days now. There is always different excuses ever time I speak with one of those representatives.
