Ford Lawsuit

Claim Forms for the Ford diesel engine class action settlement are now available at the Settlement Administrator website. If you purchased or leased a 2003-2007 Ford vehicle equipped with a 6.0-liter PowerStroke diesel engine, you may be eligible to claim between $50 and $825 from the class action settlement.

The Ford diesel engine settlement resolves dozens of class action lawsuits, consolidated as In re: Navistar 6.0L Diesel Engine Products Liability Litigation, that claim the PowerStroke diesel engines installed in heavy-duty Ford trucks and vans are defective and plagued with problems.

Ford denies the allegations but agreed to reimburse consumers through a class action settlement fund to resolve the litigation.

The settlement covers 2003-2007 non-ambulance Ford vehicles sold or leased in the United States and equipped with a 6.0-liter PowerStroke diesel engine. To be eligible to participate in the class action settlement, your vehicle must have received a repair, replacement, or adjustment during Ford’s 5-year/100,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty to one of the following engine components:

  • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (“EGR”) Cooler
  • Oil Cooler
  • Fuel Injector(s)
  • EGR Valve
  • Turbocharger
Who’s Eligible

Class Members that submit a valid Claim Form will receive one of the following benefits if the class action lawsuit settlement is approved:

Reimbursement for Post-Warranty Repairs to Certain Engine Components. If the Class Vehicle required repair to the EGR cooler, oil cooler, EGR valve, turbocharger, or a fuel injector after the original five-year/100,000-mile warranty expired — but before six years or 135,000 miles (whichever comes first) — Ford will reimburse the Settlement Class Member repair expenses up to the limits specified below, provided the Class Vehicle previously received a repair to that same component that was covered by Ford’s original warranty.

Ford Diesel settlement benefits

Potential Award

Up to $825

Reimbursement of Deductibles. If a Settlement Class Member paid a $100 deductible more than once for repairs under the five-year/100,000-mile engine warranty, Ford will reimburse $50 each for the second through fifth deductible paid, up to a limit of $200 for four deductible payments.

We purchased a 2003 Ford F-350 Super Duty V8 6.OL 363CID Diesel T P in 2003 brand new from a Ford Dealer in Riverside, Ca. We went through 20 injectors the first two years of ownership which were covered under Fords warranty. We continued to experience repair problems with each recurring year after the warranty ran out. We knew this vehicle was a lemon but Ford wouldnt do anything about it. From Aug 1, 2014 – Oct 1, 2014 our truck ate us alive to the tune of approximately $20,000 as the diesel fuel leaked into the cooling system and blew up everything rubber to triple its size. Had we known how this nightmare was going to turn out we would have pulled the engine & replaced it with a Cummins. Ford wont even take their own vehicles back on a trade-in! We need to recoup our investment! Help! My wife is a retired school teacher & this really bites into our retirement plans!

I have a 2004 F350 Super Duty Powerstroke Diesel. In January 2015, I had to replace the FICM for $1503 total. Today, June 26, 2015 found out all 8 fuel injectors need to be replaced. Is there any relief for my expenses? Thanks.

see August 31, 2015 response below. I posted in the wrong spot. sorry and good luck

I own a 2006 F350, it shutdown on me last week and would not start back up. I had it hauled to a shop and I am up to $6500.00 for a lifter coming apart due to the push rods being to long and causing to much pressure on my lifters, of course Ford will deny this as they have done on all the other problems with the 6.0. I hope the day comes when these people have to answer for ripping people off.

We purchased (new) around 5 Ford F350 trucks with Navistar diesels, but never heard of this class action suit. Is there any recourse for us now? We purchased all from Ford dealers; have a ton of repair bills, and have kept all the records.

I find this settlement to be unfair to a lot of people who purchased their 6.0L used. Post warranty repairs ” provided the Class Vehicle previously received a repair to that same component that was covered by Ford’s original warranty.” Please tell me how am I supposed to supply proof of repairs performed before I purchased the largest USED yard ornament I have ever seen????

I purchased my ’05 Excursion 6.0L in 2012 and everything seemed to be great. I loved the looks and size of the Excursion. Unfortunately 3 months after purchasing the truck I had to park it and let it sit for 6 months while I saved up the funds to replace the EGR Valve, EGR Cooler, and Oil Cooler which was just over $2,000.00 in parts. Luckily myself, my fiance, and his father spent a weekend and was able to do all the labor ourselves. Would hate to see the bill if I had to take it some where for the repairs. After installing the Bullet Proof Diesel parts the truck ran better than when I bought it. :-( That was short lived how ever because the next break down came along….HPOP!!!!! Talk about being stranded (50 miles from home) and walking away from repair shop almost another $2,0000.00 later. And the breakdowns just continue to happen. I take very good care of my vehicles, for people to say it is lack of maintenance is not the case here. To date (2 years) I have sunk approximately $7,000.00 into the 6.0L just to keep it running for a short period of time. After MONTHS of research I have come to the conclusion that it will take about another $10-20,000.00 to make this engine indestructible. So basically I am looking at $17-27k on top of the purchase price. I will never purchase another FORD in my lifetime. Once I can get rid of this yard ornament I will be purchasing a Cummins….

Unfortunately this suit did nothing for the many people out there like myself who purchased their vehicle used.

  6. Dan says:

What I find really funny is the 5yr/100,000 mile factory warranty is standard and the lawsuit allows the vehicle to be only one year past that factory warranty. I’m with all the others and know I will never buy another Ford (found on road dead)product. You can see how they got that name!

  7. Dan says:

Ford refuses to back its products. I had turbo issues on my 6.0 F-250 in the first year of ownership. When cold if you stepped the pedal all the way to the floor it took 200 feet to get to 10 MPH. The dealership brought in a Ford diesel tech cause they couldn’t figure it out. The tech did something and the issue was cured. The next time my turbo completely failed and had to have it rebuilt. That was at the 126K and over 6 years old. So I didn’t qualify for this class action suit. Its now up to 143K and the turbo has the same issue that it had in the first year and again the dealer doesn’t know how to fix it and wants to overhaul the turbo again. Have a call into Ford once again to see what they will do to help cover the repair. I’m not holding my breath, but I find it ironic that there has been a class action suit filed and I’m on my 2nd turbo rebuild and Ford still acts as if there is no problem.

  8. WL Caldwell says:

08 F250, Cost me over 12K for injectors and HPFP, fuel system cleanout, etc. Dealer polite, but unsupportive. Ford denied any responsibility twice. After buying 5 Ford vehicles, I am going back to GM.

  9. Hugh says:

Similar story to everyone else posting here. Purchased truck new; maintained it passionately. At 25,000 miles, the clutch assembly failed; I returned it for warranty repairs and found the dealership was RETUNING IT without my approval!! I demanded to know what changes they had made; they refused to answer, up to the point that we nearly had a fistfight!! And, of course, as I was leaving, dissatisfied, a new person claiming to be the head mechanic (but not wearing work clothes) came up behind me OFF-PREMISES to whisper “we can read the computer. You will void your warranty if you put in a tuner. We won’t pay for repairs.”

The truck developed the inevitable HPOP failure at 118,000 miles. Found that the oil cooler had also failed, and was living on borrowed time. Found that I had to purchase expensive software to read the computer’s internal codes. Had to replace the EGR cooler as well. Stayed on top of the (different) mechanic, who seemed genuinely surprised at how clean the motor was internally; thank God for Mobil One! Repairs cost $3000.

I was never notified about the lawsuit or settlement.

Put it together- Unauthorized reprogramming to mask the symptoms of a shoddy product; use of physical intimidation to gain compliance from a legitimate owner; no accountability for unauthorized changes; system engineered to not only fail, but hide troubleshooting codes that might have prevented the damage in the first place! Casting sand left in block destroys both oil cooler and EGR cooler! And a set of $50 coolant filters would have prevented all of this!!

(It is worth mentioning that Ford sued Navistar over the unacceptably bad design and build quality of the Powerstroke. I know FORD got paid a vast sum of money for their incompetence. But Ford’s customers got screwed YET AGAIN!!)

This is another FORMER Ford customer. When you treat your customers with this level of contempt, your reputation NEVER recovers! Suck it, Ford!!

  10. John says:

Interesting nothing noted about all the oil leaks on the early 6.0’s. Also, I bought my 2003 6.0 new and have never moved. NEVER got any notice about these actions. I have driven nothing but Ford trucks in my life. It will pain me to buy something else but never again will I buy a Ford.
