Ford Lawsuit

Claim Forms for the Ford diesel engine class action settlement are now available at the Settlement Administrator website. If you purchased or leased a 2003-2007 Ford vehicle equipped with a 6.0-liter PowerStroke diesel engine, you may be eligible to claim between $50 and $825 from the class action settlement.

The Ford diesel engine settlement resolves dozens of class action lawsuits, consolidated as In re: Navistar 6.0L Diesel Engine Products Liability Litigation, that claim the PowerStroke diesel engines installed in heavy-duty Ford trucks and vans are defective and plagued with problems.

Ford denies the allegations but agreed to reimburse consumers through a class action settlement fund to resolve the litigation.

The settlement covers 2003-2007 non-ambulance Ford vehicles sold or leased in the United States and equipped with a 6.0-liter PowerStroke diesel engine. To be eligible to participate in the class action settlement, your vehicle must have received a repair, replacement, or adjustment during Ford’s 5-year/100,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty to one of the following engine components:

  • Exhaust Gas Recirculation (“EGR”) Cooler
  • Oil Cooler
  • Fuel Injector(s)
  • EGR Valve
  • Turbocharger
Who’s Eligible

Class Members that submit a valid Claim Form will receive one of the following benefits if the class action lawsuit settlement is approved:

Reimbursement for Post-Warranty Repairs to Certain Engine Components. If the Class Vehicle required repair to the EGR cooler, oil cooler, EGR valve, turbocharger, or a fuel injector after the original five-year/100,000-mile warranty expired — but before six years or 135,000 miles (whichever comes first) — Ford will reimburse the Settlement Class Member repair expenses up to the limits specified below, provided the Class Vehicle previously received a repair to that same component that was covered by Ford’s original warranty.

Ford Diesel settlement benefits

Potential Award

Up to $825

Reimbursement of Deductibles. If a Settlement Class Member paid a $100 deductible more than once for repairs under the five-year/100,000-mile engine warranty, Ford will reimburse $50 each for the second through fifth deductible paid, up to a limit of $200 for four deductible payments.

  1. Greg Luettke says:

I have a 2011 F350 dully Diesel 6.7. It was a lease acquired by a Buffalo NY. Ford dealership. 20000 mi. when I bought it Oct 2013. At July 2016 it was 5 years old. Oct.2016 at 61700 mi. the engine through a rod I’m told, and Beau Townsend ford, Vandalia Oh. said the engine needs replaced. The service mgr. Brian Heart told me I should set up a case # with Ford through CSM, which I did. 3 weeks later the truck was repaired and I picked it up, still no word from Ford CSM of any assistance from Ford. At home the next day, the turbo is shrieking when I start it. I take it to My local Mathews Ford, they want to replace the turbo. I set up a new case # for this and am working with Service Mgr. Patti Neeley. Meanwhile I alerted Mathews service advisor Jason the transmission is shifting hard into gears when it’s cold, a complaint I had alerted a different service advisor about at a previous maintenance date (not sure when that was). The response from service was to replace the transmission. By now Patti informs me Ford will help me with$1500.00 of the cost of the turbo replacement. Repeated conversation with Brian, and many E-mails to Ford CRC have not got me any assistance. By the way I paid $13,849.00 for the engine replacement and $2236.26 for the turbo replacement. Can anyone help me get Ford to pony up some money to help me with this?

    Thank you,

    Greg Luettke

      Greg,
seems to me that there are a lot of problems with the glow plugs falling off into the cylinders and causing major damage to their 2011 F350 trucks. I just had this problem last week and it has now set us back 11,500.00 due to needing a new engine. I feel your pain. Google this: TSB 14-0127 see if this is what your problem may be. I too am going after Ford Motor Company. Good luck – let me know how it turns out for you.

  2. Dennis says:

2004 excursion, 104000 miles on it, replaced injectors, head gaskets, fuel conditioner, water pump, egr cooler (twice), oil cooler, thermostat and housing

Any help for people who have purchased 2010 F-250 Diesel SD trucks?? Ours has about 110,000 miles on it and we just had a fuel problem (we think gas tank sealant is causing problems). Not sure how much it will cost to fix it all.. we will have to have probably entire fuel system fixed and cleaned out because of metal and water/gasoline in the lines. I hate ford. Never liked them but had to get a heavy duty truck to pull our travel trailer 28′. Unfortunately we were driving and hauling our trailer when the truck just shut off at 65mph on a very busy highway.. Soo unsafe and totally ford’s fault after reading that they like to cut corners. Hope there is a new lawsuit for newer models.. I don’t think they fixed the issues; just paid the fines/settlements and never were told to fix the problems.. Shame on ford. I will NEVER buy another ford for as long as I live. I am going to invest my hard $$ into a toyota (they run forever). They make a diesel that could tow our trailer.. I am looking to buy one now.. Ford sucks!

  4. BROOKS says:

Same thing told to me about my 2009 ford 450 ,it has broke down many times on hwy lost power every thing shut down and it being checked out by ford ,thier ans is to buy a 10,ooo dollar engine this truck was sold to me brandnew in 2009,my ques is did ford motor co,have the knowledge that thes engines were bad and didnt disclose this to the new buyer

  5. BROOKS says:

exzactly what i was told about 2009 ford 450,saying needs a new 10,OOO ENGINE

  6. Jack Matalka says:

I have a 2005 F350 and I had no warranty on this truck, The mechanic said they wont fix the problem if I requested the aftermarket head bolts because ford wont replace the parts. I now have had this done twice and i have spent over $11,400 on having this done twice. If this was such a problem then why wouldn’t ford have fixes this with newer head-bolts and a EGR kit so consumers wouldn’t have to go thru this? Is it too late to have something done?

  7. tony says:

im going to try sue ford myself, piece of shit truck same story as everybody else, paid for ,thought I could fix and keep but back in shop 6.0 keeps shops and tow trucks busy im pissed off ,it sucks my wife has to tell me to calm down every time I see one these freakin things, just had heart attack, and my wife has to call tow truck to freakin hospital to truck after ive put around 10k is this shit thing

  8. Mike Hotchkiss says:

I have a 2003 F350 6.0L made in Canada. I replaced 2 injectors and the turbo while under warranty at no cost to me. After the warranty was up I replaced 2 more injectors and the low pressure fuel pump to the tune of $4000. I was not aware of the class action lawsuit until two weeks ago. So, I guess I am out of luck. I have 265,000 miles on it and feel lucky after reading the other stories. I do think it is about time to get rid of it. Looks like I am going to Dodge.

  9. SPLASH says:

I too have horrible stories and didnt really knew I had a bad made engine. I own a 1997 F-350 one ton crew cab dually 7.3 engine and a 2004 f-350 one tone crew cab dually with a 6.0L 4X4. I own them both since new. The only one giving me trouble and not knowing I had a bad built 6.0L engine 2004. At 47,000 original miles I had a check engine light and took to the Ford Dealership in Corning Ford in Corning Ford, Corning, Ca. The dealership rip me off. Because I had a turbo charge problems ad they told me I had to replace the unit for a tune of $2300.00 and then I find out from a diesel mechanic all I had to do was to clean the turbocharge for $400. I was hot and mad AND i will not deal with a DISHONEST DEALERSHIP that should have clean up the turbo changer instead of replacing it with a new turbocharge. Not only I will not deal with Ford motor anymore but will not deal with Corning Ford. dealership too. To this date with only 48,000 miles I spent 2700$ and sweating to see what comes up next. I put an ad to sell and no taker. Truck runs good until the next surprise. Dam FORD. I was a Chevy man too and I am going back to GMC or Chevy or Dodge. No more FORD for not standing behind us Ford owners like all of you and I………..good luck to all

  10. SPLASH says:

I was told to be very suspicious of a mechanic wanting to changed all 8 injectors. It is usually one or two or?? But not all 8. I had a diesel mechanic and he had the equipment to figure which one is faulty. Fortunately i had only one injector but still 400$ cheaper than all 8. The complaints I heard a lot is the mechanics are not spending the time to troubleshoot the issue and just charge into replacing something that didn t need fixing. Get another mechanic to check which injectors is really bad. Good Luck.
