Citibank NA agreed to pay $1.55 million to settle a class action lawsuit stemming over allegations that the banking giant listened-in on customer phone calls made to its toll-free line, without informing callers that they were being recorded.
Plaintiff Ramona Edery filed the Citibank lawsuit after making a call to the toll-free number in order to open an account. She claims to have discussed private financial information during that phone call and only later discovered that the conversation had been recorded.
Edery alleged Citibank violated California’s Invasion of Privacy Act and referred to a state Supreme Court ruling that found customers are used to being told about any recording or monitoring at the beginning of a phone call so she had a reasonable expectation that the information she shared was not being recorded.
Those who wish to object or opt-out of the class action settlement must do so by July 28, 2016.
Who’s Eligible
Class Members include all California residents who participated in one or more phone conversations with Citibank at 800-745-1534 and were recorded or monitored without being informed between Apr. 3, 2013 and May 15, 2013.
Potential Award
$350 – $2,500
The Citibank Settlement Fund of $1.55 million will be divided among Class Members who file valid and timely Claim Forms after court expenses are paid off. The Settlement Administrator estimates that this will give each Class Member between $350 and $2,500, depending on the number of claims.

Any update? I don’t know how to speak to someone to get an update as the website and phone are outdated.
The court granted the settlement final approval on September 15, 2016. There is a 30 day period in which appeals can be filed. If after the 30 days, no appeals are filed, then the settlement is final. The settlement agreement states that claims will be paid no later than 14 days after the effective date. Keep checking Top Class Actions for updates. We will let our viewers know if any appeals are filed!
So the effective date would be October 15, 2016?

I called Citibank around this time because I had a credit card with them and was in the process of trying to pay it back but I cant file since Im not a Californian resident
that number is not for citibank card holders. it is only for people who have certain checking and cd accounts. you wouldnt have dialed that number as a credit card holder.
I received a post card requesting phone records from 2013. I have switched phone companies and no longer have access to these phone records. I was on paperless billing. What should I do?
The phone company that you used at the time still has access to those records. You may have have to pay them around $10-12 per billing cycle that you request. The easiest way to do it is to call them and say that you need the phone records from the time period of this lawsuit. You can also tell them that you are submitting a claim for a lawsuit and need proof that you called the number. They can search the number and send you a copy of the bill that it was on.
