VGW Malta Ltd., owner of Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots, has agreed to pay $11.75 million to end a class action lawsuit claiming the company violated Kentucky gambling laws by selling virtual coins in Luckyland and Chumba Casino slots games.

Class members include all Kentucky residents who spent $5 or more at Chumba Casino or Luckyland Slots within a 24-hour period between March 17, 2017, and March 17, 2022.

Plaintiff Amy Jo Armstead filed the Chumba Casino and Lucklyand Slots class action lawsuit Sept. 7, 2022. Armstead states she played Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots games, and lost more than $7,000 doing so. In her lawsuit, she argues she and many other people were harmed because VGW Malta violated Kentucky gambling laws designed to protect individuals.

She explains VGW Malta owns and operates virtual casino games through the brands Chumba Casino and Luckyland. Allegedly, the virtual games allow players to use virtual coins to play slot games.

The plaintiff states that while first-time players are given these virtual “gold coins” for free, after the initial play, consumers must pay real money to purchase these coins. Consumers can also reportedly place wagers to win more gold coins.

While the company lures players in with its “free to play” model, the games quickly charge players, according to the plaintiff, meaning they fall under the regulations of Kentucky gambling law.

She asserts that as games of chance are illegal in Kentucky, if gambling players lose money at games of chance in the state, they are entitled to receive their lost money within a certain timeframe. In her Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit, Armstead requested that the money she lost at gambling, and the money other similarly affected consumers lost, be returned to them.

VGW Malta has not admitted wrongdoing in response to the claims surrounding the games but has agreed to a settlement to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation.

Class members will be eligible for a proportional payment of the settlement amount, allocated based on how much money they lost from the settlement. These amounts will be determined after attorney fees and costs as well as class representative payments have been allocated.

A payment estimator is available on the settlement website.

Class members who wish to object to or exclude themselves from the VGW Malta Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit settlement must do so by Dec. 15, 2022.

A final fairness hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2023.

To receive class action settlement benefits, class members must file a valid claim by March 6, 2023.

Chumba Casino’s (A JOKE) since this Claim was filed They now give “1.00” cash coin daily w/200,000 Gold Coins as if You could reallyWin playing 1.00. Even if They Stack Up it would be hard to redeem playing only Free Coins
:I’m Sure…They would still find some way not to be Fair just like A Situation I’m facing at this moment , I Won over 200 and when I opted to redeem it says that ( waiting on Bank Verification) Huh? How? It’s been a year since I joined and it’s the same bank card that They charge when I purchase extra coins!! So if They don’t get My Winnings to me soon , They will be back in court w/ Another form of Lawsuit!!!! SMH

    1. Fabian says:

No I actually won 425 of a free dollar and got paid quick

    2. Ken says:

I have taken the free dollar twice now and cashed out $500.00 and then $300.00. Cash was deposited in 2 days into my account.

      1. Destiny says:

Yea I never won anything just off the 1.00 sweepstakes but I have won and money was deposited in 3-4 days. Recently tho I’ve had an issue with how much I was supposed to win verses how much I actually won. Multiple times on the same game and on different days got bounus round of fire shot in which you can win an upgrade from first amount won. I received 3 upgrades in 1 bounus round , I had a mini jackpot which upgraded to minor jackpot and then I received another upgrade and everything was upgraded but the minor was skipped, and then I received another upgrade and again minor was skipped!! I took screen shots I was so heated. It ended up happening a second time. Now when I hit a bonus I screen record, and sure enough same thing happened and filed a claim at that point.

        1. Elizabeth Reid says:

When it upgrades it doesn’t upgrade past the minor you’ll never upgrade past the minor

  6. Vickie L Piggie says:

    Please add me

  7. Kimberly Gonzales says:

    Please add California

    1. Sherry Hillock says:

Please add Ohio to the list because I have spent plenty of money with Chumba Casino, Luckyland and Fortune Coin. All the social gambling real people in and let them win money for the first 30 to 45 days from open the account. By then the person is addicted to gambling and spending money thinking they are going to win.

  8. Nikki Pearson says:

North Carolina NEEDS TO BE ADDED.

    1. Sara DINAPOLI says:

I agree. North Carolina should be added. I bought in with my own money. North Carolina doesn’t allow online gambling in this state.

    2. Sara DINAPOLI says:

      I agree! Add North Carolina…

    3. April says:

Agree Orion Stars California I’ve lost over 30,000 when you do win they don’t want to pay and it’s like they control there systems I have messages on Facebook from them stating if I play $5.00 bet and it’s a .01 player the 1 cent player is going to always win. Something needs to be done. They close all the spots down so for us people with problems of gambling we have no other choice and it’s killing me. I have video of me playing I’m on a 5.00 bet every time I do bust something and it’s hard to bust it the dang thing just freezes everything else around the page is still working multiple times this has happen to me. I have messages videos and bank statements to confirm everything I’m saying. They pray on us with problems they message 20 times a day and ask if I’m playing or either telling me the game is hitting. I put money on and nothing. It’s not a luck game please let’s get a lawsuit going on them.

  9. April says:

Please add oklahoma to this list
