VGW Malta Ltd., owner of Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots, has agreed to pay $11.75 million to end a class action lawsuit claiming the company violated Kentucky gambling laws by selling virtual coins in Luckyland and Chumba Casino slots games.

Class members include all Kentucky residents who spent $5 or more at Chumba Casino or Luckyland Slots within a 24-hour period between March 17, 2017, and March 17, 2022.

Plaintiff Amy Jo Armstead filed the Chumba Casino and Lucklyand Slots class action lawsuit Sept. 7, 2022. Armstead states she played Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots games, and lost more than $7,000 doing so. In her lawsuit, she argues she and many other people were harmed because VGW Malta violated Kentucky gambling laws designed to protect individuals.

She explains VGW Malta owns and operates virtual casino games through the brands Chumba Casino and Luckyland. Allegedly, the virtual games allow players to use virtual coins to play slot games.

The plaintiff states that while first-time players are given these virtual “gold coins” for free, after the initial play, consumers must pay real money to purchase these coins. Consumers can also reportedly place wagers to win more gold coins.

While the company lures players in with its “free to play” model, the games quickly charge players, according to the plaintiff, meaning they fall under the regulations of Kentucky gambling law.

She asserts that as games of chance are illegal in Kentucky, if gambling players lose money at games of chance in the state, they are entitled to receive their lost money within a certain timeframe. In her Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit, Armstead requested that the money she lost at gambling, and the money other similarly affected consumers lost, be returned to them.

VGW Malta has not admitted wrongdoing in response to the claims surrounding the games but has agreed to a settlement to avoid the costs and risks of continued litigation.

Class members will be eligible for a proportional payment of the settlement amount, allocated based on how much money they lost from the settlement. These amounts will be determined after attorney fees and costs as well as class representative payments have been allocated.

A payment estimator is available on the settlement website.

Class members who wish to object to or exclude themselves from the VGW Malta Chumba Casino and Luckyland Slots class action lawsuit settlement must do so by Dec. 15, 2022.

A final fairness hearing is scheduled for Jan. 9, 2023.

To receive class action settlement benefits, class members must file a valid claim by March 6, 2023.

YES add Arkansas to the list. There is a difference in GABLING & TAKEN FOR A RIDE. They take people’s money & give back nothing but false hope of big wins. PLUS if your not watching they hit your account & take out money when not authorized!

  2. Khadejia Bryant says:

OHIO should definitely be added to this. It fathoms me on how you can see that someone is winning, but it’s literally maybe one or 2 people at a time. I know gambling is tricky, but it’s not right to have millions and its hardly giving out what they say they are. I’ve spent a lot of money in both games.

    1. Kodi wilmoth says:

I thought chumba was supposed to close down the site! Why are they still allowed to take peoples money.

  3. Stephanie Sanchez says:

    Please add Nebraska…

  4. JENNIFER JACKSON says:

How do you get your user ID # on their website. For some reason. They don’t give you a user ID # anymore. Making it hard to even put a claim in. SMH

    1. Sara DINAPOLI says:

Chumba does not give member ID numbers. I inquired about that and they said they identify players from their email.

    2. Della says:

At bottom of the claim to contact the lawyers there’s an email, ask them for the I’d make sure to include your name email address and phone number. They sent me mine. It’s a joke for my statement from Chumba was 25 pages. Lots of money spent and with the I’d ha ha it wasn’t even $500 for the estimate. A joke for sure. Good luck.i still think people will be disappointed after getting the estimate amount, still has no small portion of for myself lost and purchased. It’s not even a .0015 of what I spent. It’s overly insane the formula they must be using. Someone’s getting paid a lot lot of $$.. not the Kentuckians..

  5. Jessica Denise Howard says:

Add Illinois also!! I’ve lost way to much $ on both also. And for those that are bashing ppl like me, u know what… It b nice once in awhile to win!! I’m not saying everyday, all day,… Just once in awhile…

    1. Sherry Hillock says:

Please add Ohio to the list because I have spent plenty of money with Chumba Casino, Luckyland and Fortune Coin. All the social gambling real people in and let them win money for the first 30 to 45 days from open the account. By then the person is addicted to gambling and spending money thinking they are going to win.

      1. Sara DINAPOLI says:

Pultz is another gaming site were you buy in. They give you .30 for signing on the first few times then it goes to .50!! Big deal…

  6. Della says:

Here’s a real kicker, I’m in Kentucky and know that there is only about 7 states that are actually “technically” legal to gamble. Yes, Kentucky is one that only permits horseracing, and lottery. But all online gambling other than those 7 states are illegal. Here’s an eye opener to this whole lawsuit. *If you ever figured all your losses and entered that number in the claim estimator HA HA, that’s a great big laugh. $11.75M now how many Kentucky residents are in the lawsuit? I know I have spent thousands of dollars over the 3 years on both Chumba and Luckyland and have I won? Nothing that portions a sliver of what I spent. However this formula to calculate must indicate there is large lump sums of money to several Kentucky residents. I’d honestly love to know.. Cause with my Unique ID entered in the site, is a joke for the amount Estimated. So if your curious to where this money is going, I’d love to know because that’s a large amount of money to divide up and to give pennies to that dollar amount. There’s got to be more hidden in that valley. Someone one is getting paid because there is no way that estimator is in anyway accurate. But why care when it’s just money, we blow it everyday. So why expect it to return. If I had just 6 months of what I’ve spent I’d be these advertisements of happy happy with new cars and such. But you can’t expect to sit at a table for a steak dinner, when the cook has a estimated formula to feed a small group today and take home leftovers for themselves. It’s a crazy world we live in. And I’d rather give to someone in need than to expect a return of money. It’s just dropping money in the mall and later realizing, you had dropped it. You can’t expect to back track and recover every dollar. Someone done hit the door running. That’s what will happen with this case and the several more to come. One, two or a few will bank from the no wrong doing and those that have lost will never recover if that’s the intention. It’s just a matter of time and many will continue to play and more states will see the psychological effects and the cycle. Respects until someone reads the terms, conditions, and rules. Everyone was deemed to get nothing but pennies. It’s just part of the cycle, until those words are misinterpreted. It’s the risk of knowledge, if your minds right your chances are greater to win. Otherwise no bonus play, feed me or “insert here” the cycle of self control and psychology. Life, the game of chance.. Risky business everyday, all day. Blessings and love to all. 🦋🍀

  7. Amy Hurst says:

    Add Alabama please

    1. Rob Dickson says:

How about Iowa? Legal or not legal?

    2. Darla says:

      Alabama needs to be added

    3. Tara T says:

      Add alabama

  8. Darlene says:

    Please add California

    1. Anh Huynh says:

What about California where I live and I can guarantee our state loses more money to this scam of a site than any other state.

  9. Kim says:

What about a class action against Orion Stars. I’m from Utah where gambling is illegal. They messaged me daily on instant messenger offering promos and free play. They lure you in and before you know it you have spent thousands and won nothing. Yes, I didn’t have to play but I guess I believed it to be a fair playing field and wasn’t aware they aren’t regulated. They need shut down!!

  10. Delores Haltom says:

Chumba ripped us California folks out of tens of thousands of dollars. Including us.

    1. Mayra says:

Yep that’s right iam in California and lost alot of money on luckyland and chumba and I have proof I think they should do a class settlement for us in California to for loosing and not winning anything

      1. Texasgirl says:

I play better wilds and at first it was legit. Now when I stop the spin it jumps in such an obvious way its crazy. I’ve also noticed in Queenie slot that even before the slot reel stops it is already adding to your balance what the win amount is before it hits. Predetermined and rigged !!!

What proof do you have ? I also have proof. I screen record my plays sometimes.

    2. Michele Helen Balzeit says:

      Please add California

      1. Ch r is Cole says:

I live in california and I have spent alot of money on chumba casino and it always loses and takes my money I to live in california and would like us to have the chance to get some if not all of our money back.

        1. Anh Huynh says:

It’s one thing when you’re playing on a site and know there are regulations in place to show fairness but this site literally just robs you slowly. I’ve lost a good amount and don’t understand how they are allowed to still operate and take peoples’ hard earned money. I’m trying to do chargebacks with PayPal but it’s so technical that it feels like PayPal is protecting them or something. California must be added. Not sure how CA gambling laws differ from Kentucky but it can’t be that far off.

          1. Elizabeth Reid says:

What do you mean by charge back with PayPal you mean PayPal allowed them to charge your card without you knowing or getting your money back from PayPal because this site is basically a scam
