Honda, Acura air bag defect recall overview:

  • Who: Honda recalled more than 750,000 Honda and Acura vehicles.
  • Why: The automaker initiated the recall over concerns the vehicles contain front passenger air bag systems that could deploy even in the event a passenger — such as a child, infant or otherwise small person — is too light for it to be safe.
  • Where: The recall affects owners of certain Honda and Acura vehicles nationwide.

Honda recalled more than 750,000 Honda and Acura vehicles over concerns they contain front passenger air bags that could deploy even in the presence of an infant in a child seat, a child, or a person for whom deployment should be suppressed because of their size.

The Honda/Acura air bag defect recall involves 19 different Honda and Acura vehicle models, including various Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Fit, HR-V, Insight, Pilot, Odyssey, Passport and Ridgeline vehicles and Acura MDX, RDX and TLX vehicles collectively ranging between model years 2020 and 2022.

Honda attributes the potential defect to a supplier temporarily changing the base material for a part of a seat weight sensor. The material change could end up causing a capacitor to crack and an internal short circuit to occur, the automaker says in the air bag defect recall

Authorized Honda, Acura dealers to replace seat weight sensor part in recalled vehicles

Registered owners of the recalled Honda and Acura vehicles will be asked via mail to bring their vehicles to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer, where the vehicles’ seat weight sensors will be replaced with a non-defective part.

Honda and Acura vehicle owners who have already paid for a repair at their own expense may be eligible for reimbursement, according to the air bag defect recall. Honda said it plans to notify all recalled vehicle owners on March 18, 2024.

The automaker recently initiated a variety of recalls involving defects related to seat belts, steering racks, connecting rods, defective pressure washer engines, brakes, rear windshields and infotainment systems.

  1. Anita McCoy says:

I had an accident on October 30,2023 and although my Acura was a 2007 I was hit in a head on collision which caused my car to be totaled and my air bags didn’t deploy at all. I could have been killed. I sustained lots of injuries and two black eyes from my face hitting the steering and the swelling . Should have been older models too

Honda used to be a very good company, now it’s getting ridiculous how many recalls I’ve had so far.

    2017 Arcura add me.

  5. Maria says:

    own 2011 Cr-V; add me please ?

  6. Jane Doe says:

Technically, it is an airbag defect if the airbag sensor is defective… from what I read, the AIRBAG will deploy… of course it’s due to the sensor, however they both all part of the AIRBAG system along with several other parts. That’s like saying there’s a valve stem recall… when in fact, it would be a tire recall due to to a defective valve stem.

Add me to the list please

You have to take the initiative to add yourself any class action in which you qualify… you can’t be added to a class action simply by posting the two word comment “add me”… how the hell are they going gather pertinent info from a two word comment? Sheesh.

  10. John Doe says:

Get the title correct. This is not an airbag defect! It is a sensor defect. The airbags themselves are not the problem.
