Colorado State University (CSU) disclosed earlier this month that it was affected by the recent cyberattack on the MOVEit Transfer system.

The university said that, while no systems operated or maintained by the CSU system were branched, the attack may have resulted in the unauthorized access of personal info belonging to some members of its campus community.

CSU data potentially compromised due to the cyberattack is connected to some of its current students and employees, along with some former employees and students of the university dating back to 2021, according to the school.

While this cyberattack involves third-party vendors and university systems were not compromised, it is a reminder of the importance of cybersecurity at CSU System institutions,” the school said in a letter sent to the CSU community July 12.

CSU working with vendors affected by cyber attack to gauge ‘full impact’ of cyberattack

CSU said it is continuing to work with its vendors that were affected by the data breach, in order to “gauge the full impact of the cyberattack.”

As of July 12, more than 280 organizations have been affected by the cyberattack on the MOVEit Transfer system — which allows the exchange of data files between clients across the globe — according to CSU.

The university said it was informed by vendors including TIAA, National Student Clearinghouse, Corebridge Financial, Genworth Financial, Sunlife and The Hartford that it may have been affected by the cyberattack on MOVEit Transfer.

CSU is a public research university with a $558 million endowment and a total of almost 28,000 students and 6,000 staff members working in the academic and administrative sector, Bleeping Computer reports

The school said that, going forward, it will “continue prioritizing” the security of personal data, and promised to keep its members updated on any future developments.

In other data breach news, a class action lawsuit was filed against Oklahoma City University School of Law in April over claims the school bore responsibility for a July 2022 data breach due to its alleged negligent handling of student data
