Caved in windshield of wrecked car.A man from Wyoming recently filed a semi truck accident lawsuit against Sysco Montana Inc., alleging one of their truck driver’s drove negligently and caused him to suffer serious injuries.

The semi truck accident lawsuit also names the driver of the 80,000-pound vehicle as a responsible party because it was his actions that allegedly caused the collision.

Plaintiff Rodney M. alleges Sysco was responsible for ensuring all their drivers were properly trained and regularly exercised safe driving, which would have prevented this situation all together.

Operating a semi truck takes long hours of specialized training so the driver understands how to safely drive it. Rodney alleges that truck driver James Friede was not properly trained, leading to the crash.

According to the semi truck accident lawsuit, the collision occurred on June 15, 2015 when Friede was operating a 2003 International Tractor-Trailer for Sysco.

Friede was allegedly traveling westbound on Highway 14-16-20 at milepost marker 32.29 when he turned left and hit Rodney, who was traveling on eastbound on the same road. Rodney says he sustained serious injuries, including debilitating damages to his back and spine.

The lawsuit further alleges that due to the injuries of the semi truck accident, Rodney has experienced debilitating pain so severe that he cannot remain in a seated position.

Rodney says his pain continues to present day, which he says has interfered with routine activities such as standing, spending time with other people, and household activities.

Overall, the accident has allegedly left Rodney medically disabled and he can no longer work as a highway patrolman. Rodney opted to file this semi truck accident against Sysco, after discovering the alleged extent of Friede’s negligence.

As the operator of the semi truck, Friede was responsible for maintaining a safe distance and looking out for any oncoming traffic on either side of the road, contends Rodney in his lawsuit. Fried failed to do so, leading to the accident and Rodney’s injuries.

Overview of Semi Truck Accident Statistics

Sysco is a food delivery system that routinely utilizes semi trucks for delivery purposes, which means their truck drivers are in constant contact with motorists and pedestrians.

Many other companies utilize these large vehicles to make major deliveries to clients, and are responsible for ensuring their drivers are properly trained and practices safe driving.

However negligent truck driving has become a serious problem in the United States in recent years, with recent statistics indicating semi truck accidents have increased over the years.

There are approximately 500,000 semi truck accidents across the country every year, with 5,000 of these incidents being fatal and over 100,000 of them involving serious injuries.

Due to the substantial size of semi trucks, approximately 98% of fatalities in these accidents are drivers or passengers in typical consumer vehicles.

There are a number of factors that can contribute to a vehicle collision, including uncontrollable problems like ice or other bad weather conditions. However, there are also many factors that are caused by human error including:

  • Driver Fatigue
  • Driving under the Influence
  • Lack of Training or Experience
  • Unsafe Vehicle Parts
  • Driving at High Speeds
  • Driving while using Cell Phone

Rodney alleges the semi truck accident was caused by Friede’s negligent driving and will continue to suffer permanent injuries and a decreased quality of life.
