Room service on bedGetARoom.com has been hit with a class action lawsuit from customers who claim that the third-party hotel booking company engages in deceptive hotel booking methods and charges customers massive fees.

Plaintiffs Christian and Jonna Sander state that Consumer Club Inc. d/b/a GetARoom.com misleads consumers into thinking they are booking a room with the hotel itself and don’t disclose that they are a third-party vendor.

Sander says she made a reservation for a stay at the Scandic Patria hotel, thinking that she was on the hotel website. She paid $141.14 for the stay, which was the advertised rate.

When she received an email confirmation, the plaintiff learned that the reservation was booked through GetARoom.com and not the hotel itself.

“Upon information and belief, Plaintiffs believe that Defendant created a website to mimic or redirect them from the official website of the Scandic Patria in order to falsely induce Plaintiffs into reserving through Defendant instead of directly through the hotel,” the Get A Room class action lawsuit states.

In addition to fraudulently inducing the plaintiffs into booking a hotel reservation through its website, GetARoom.com also charged the plaintiffs a $100.76 in “Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees,” which was not disclosed when the plaintiff was making the reservation.

The defendant is a middleman and takes reservations for hotel rooms from consumers in lieu of the customer booking a room directly with a hotel, claims the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs say when they contacted the defendant via telephone, Get A Room representatives identify themselves as the “reservations department.” In addition, when asked by customers if the number they dialed is the hotel, the representatives affirm that this is true, according to the plaintiffs.

Only after customers receive a confirmation of the reservation do the plaintiffs find out they have booked a room through GetARoom.com and not directly through the hotel, the plaintiffs allege.

The Get A Room class action claims that the defendants charge more for their rooms than what is originally quoted prior to booking.

Allegedly, when consumers try to cancel their reservation because they are paying more than what is quoted, they are told there is a “no cancellation policy” so the reservation cannot be canceled.

The plaintiff claims that Get A Room representatives do not tell consumers about the no cancellation policy while on the phone. In addition, when consumers are booking a room online, they have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy, according to the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit.

Moreover, the plaintiffs state that if they contact the hotel to cancel their reservation, they are informed that if they booked their room directly with the hotel itself, they would have been able to cancel the reservation.

The GetARoom class action claims that there have been thousands of complaints about Consumer Club to the Better Business Bureau regarding their actions, but nothing has been done to fix the problems that the plaintiffs have encountered.

“Plaintiffs suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendant’s omissions and/or misrepresentations associated with the cancellation policy and its purported ‘service’ fees,” the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit states.

My husband and I just got scammed by Get A Room, posing as a government website for the Grand Canyon. We literally hand-deleted our credit card data when we saw $200 in extra fees, NOT pressing Confirm. They still charged us. A trip we are literally not using.

We thought that we were dealing with the hotel, but could not get a refund even six months ahead of time. We are out $1100.

I would have never booked anything with a company called Getaroom. They somehow hijacked my reservation request and billed me $1200.00 immediately after I made my reservation. The ad stated free cancellation the day before arrival. When I called them they stated they have no refunds. But you can cancel???? Wtf? Thieves. I hope there is a way to stop these criminals.

Completely dumbfounded on the ability of this company to commit fraud with no repercussions. We booked a hotel room several weeks ahead. Within 24 hours of booking we had to cancel the reservation. We spoke with an agent at Getaroom.com who said they would reach out to the hotel about a refund. 15 minutes later I get an email saying the hotel declined a refund. Mind you this was 7:30pm and I find it hard to believe that turnaround time. Nonetheless, I called the hotel who said they cancelled our reservation and refunded our money. When asked if somebody at the hotel would have declined a refund they said absolutely not and no record of declining refund. When I call back to Getaroom.com they keep telling me they’ve sent more emails to the hotel requesting a refund. Going in circles with no answer. How can Getaroom.com not pay the hotel but still keep our $600. They are strictly stealing our money. On a side note within 16 hours of all this somebody else got our credit card info and two fraudulent charges were made through Airbnb. Tell me they aren’t sharing our info as well

I had a last-minute shift in business to go elsewhere, I looked up where we stayed before being a Microtel. It was in a small town and not filled the last time. What I thought was the Microtel reservation line turned out that it was not after the fact, once charges and emails transpired, very misleading. They quoted the government rate which we get (DOE) to find out that they add this 200.00 plus buck for some ancillary bs. I had a call ten minutes later to cancel as someone closer in the upstate NY area who would fill my shoes. I tried to cancel, nope. I would have to eat the whole of 581.00 ish dollars. But the hotel said I could cancel no problem?? Hmm. Kind of odd if they’re selling hotel services for the hotels, but the hotel allows cancelation under certain stipulations, which I met no problem. They still said no. the BBB has thousands of complaints about them. Just another well written “term and agreements” page you get after the fact with offshore call centers playing along. Add me to the list of complainers that got scammed. I’ll never go outside my regular hotel apps ever again.

I booked a 4 night stay at the Holliday Inn Express in West Chester PA from Oct. 15 to Oct. 19 2023. I had no idea that I was booking through “Get a Room”. For personal reason’s I was unable to make the trip. When I called the hotel to cancel my reservation on Oct. 13, I was told that they could not cancel my reservation because I had booked it through a 3rd party “Get A Room”. I had no idea. I called the “Get A Room” 800 number to cancel the reservation. They told me that they would cancel the reservation, but that there was a no refund policy. After talking with them they finally agreed to refund 10% of my $660.00 for $60.00 which I have yet to see returned to my American Express card. It is a complete and utter RIP OFF!!!!

-getaroom.com is a complete scam. I was trying to book through the hotel site for 1 night and some how I ended up booking through this site. The room rate was $147.00 per night, $20.00 resort fee, and then this company has the nerve to charge $106.30 in taxes and other fees like cleaning that the resort “may charge” them. Although it then tells you that the hotel will hold $100.00 on your credit card for cleaning and damage, so basically they are charging you for what the hotel would charge you anyway. When I looked up the tax rate in this area for hotels it was 9%. When I tried to cancel they were going to charge me a $173.00 cancellation fee. I should have only been paying $178.35 for the room with resort and taxes. This company hides their charges until it’s too late and makes it nearly impossible to get out of. I am reporting this company anywhere and everywhere. I feel as though the government should investigate them!!!

My husband wanted to suprise me with a trip away. He thought he was booking a room directly through the hotel’s website. It look exactly the same and the first on the google search list. Wasnt until he got the booking confirmation he saw the booking was more than advertsied as it was in US dollars, and $250 worth of taxes added. The confirmation also came from geta room not the fdirect hotel. The accomodation went from 500AUD to $750 AUD. He clicked on the link to cancel it in the cancellation period, however the link went to an error message. so he tried to ring them, the number is disconnected, the emails bounce back. We rang the hotel directly and they said they dont recieve the money until we check out. They cant even give us a credit note. They also mentioned, Get a room might cancel the booking with them during our stay and then we have to pay the hotel directly as well.
