Room service on bedGetARoom.com has been hit with a class action lawsuit from customers who claim that the third-party hotel booking company engages in deceptive hotel booking methods and charges customers massive fees.

Plaintiffs Christian and Jonna Sander state that Consumer Club Inc. d/b/a GetARoom.com misleads consumers into thinking they are booking a room with the hotel itself and don’t disclose that they are a third-party vendor.

Sander says she made a reservation for a stay at the Scandic Patria hotel, thinking that she was on the hotel website. She paid $141.14 for the stay, which was the advertised rate.

When she received an email confirmation, the plaintiff learned that the reservation was booked through GetARoom.com and not the hotel itself.

“Upon information and belief, Plaintiffs believe that Defendant created a website to mimic or redirect them from the official website of the Scandic Patria in order to falsely induce Plaintiffs into reserving through Defendant instead of directly through the hotel,” the Get A Room class action lawsuit states.

In addition to fraudulently inducing the plaintiffs into booking a hotel reservation through its website, GetARoom.com also charged the plaintiffs a $100.76 in “Tax Recovery Charges & Service Fees,” which was not disclosed when the plaintiff was making the reservation.

The defendant is a middleman and takes reservations for hotel rooms from consumers in lieu of the customer booking a room directly with a hotel, claims the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs say when they contacted the defendant via telephone, Get A Room representatives identify themselves as the “reservations department.” In addition, when asked by customers if the number they dialed is the hotel, the representatives affirm that this is true, according to the plaintiffs.

Only after customers receive a confirmation of the reservation do the plaintiffs find out they have booked a room through GetARoom.com and not directly through the hotel, the plaintiffs allege.

The Get A Room class action claims that the defendants charge more for their rooms than what is originally quoted prior to booking.

Allegedly, when consumers try to cancel their reservation because they are paying more than what is quoted, they are told there is a “no cancellation policy” so the reservation cannot be canceled.

The plaintiff claims that Get A Room representatives do not tell consumers about the no cancellation policy while on the phone. In addition, when consumers are booking a room online, they have to agree to the cancellation policy, but nowhere does it state that the cancellation policy is a no cancellation policy, according to the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit.

Moreover, the plaintiffs state that if they contact the hotel to cancel their reservation, they are informed that if they booked their room directly with the hotel itself, they would have been able to cancel the reservation.

The GetARoom class action claims that there have been thousands of complaints about Consumer Club to the Better Business Bureau regarding their actions, but nothing has been done to fix the problems that the plaintiffs have encountered.

“Plaintiffs suffered an ascertainable loss as a result of Defendant’s omissions and/or misrepresentations associated with the cancellation policy and its purported ‘service’ fees,” the GetARoom.com class action lawsuit states.

On August 3, 2023, I booked a room at The Beeman Hotel in Dallas, TX on behalf of an executive. The reservation was made online on what fully appeared to be the Beeman Hotel’s direct website. It was not until August 11, when I called the hotel to modify the reservation, that we became aware that the reservation was not made through the hotel. It was made to a third party; a third party to which we did not have a name. We had no idea who took our money. Upon learning this, I called the number listed on the email confirmation and after much prying and back & forth with the representative was I able to learn that “Getaroom.com” was behind the deceptive and quite frankly fraudulent booking practices. After over 15 mins of discussion, I asked to speak to a supervisor. After holding for another 18 minutes I was ultimately disconnected. I called again and was put on hold with no greeting or acknowledgment that the call had been picked up. I called a third time and was told that I was unable to be connected to a supervisor that that time because she was busy with an influx of calls – not surprised at all! I ultimately canceled the reservation with penalty (no refund) and requested the matter be escalated and hopefully get a refund.

After taking a closer look at the website used to book the reservation it became evident that Getaroom.com hides behind the name of “Guest Reservations” where the URL reads http://www.guestreservations.com/%5Bname of hotel] which under any reasonable standard could not be called anything less than deceptive.

Having essentially been deceived and tricked into booking with a third party, I will continue to reach out, write letters and file a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau until I am heard.

I was staying at the The Ramada by Wyndham Av. Eng. Arantes e Oliveira, 9, Lisbon, 1900-221, Portugal and wanted to go to Madrid for a couple of days and return to the same hotel on 4/27/23. I got on the hotel’s website 4/24/23 and saw the rate for 107 euros and proceeded to book for the 4/26/23. I got a confirmation from my card Amex for $169.77 and saw getaroom logo on the SafeyKey email. after I realized that I was con by this site I called and cancelled, I called Amex and made the complaint and not until I returned to USA and Amex looked into it that I got a copy of the reservation that they sent to Amex with a reservation number. I called getaroom and explained and asked for a refund, but they refused. This is deceptive hotel booking, I believe that getaroom created a website to mimicking or redirect or hijack my booking and charged me a higher price than what was advertised on the hotel website. After I rebooked directly with the hotel in person as I was right there, I learnt that getaroom made that booking for 63 euros with them which was cancelled. getaroom robbed me $169.77 and get away with it, I now understand this is a fraudulent pattern with them and hopefully the law can stop them. This site is a total rip off! They make their site to look like you are booking on the hotel website. My wife booked a room and immediately canceled after I told her that she booked on getaroom.com. We have called and called and we just keep getting put on forget (Hold). They always say less than 2 minutes. They refuse to issue a refund and hide behind their “policy”. I would rate them a 0 if could. I called the hotel direct being we are diamond members of Hilton and they are investigating this company and their practices. I would join this lawsuit in a second!

  4. Shannel says:

We booked a room through “booketta” during our stay our 6 yr. old found a syringe and a short straw under the mattress in the room. after confronting the management of the hotel they offered to refund our stay. a week later we still did not get the refund posted back to our card. As of today we have over 2 dozen email transaction with booketta, priceline, and getaroom. We have spent over 20 hours on the phone with countless representatives and their supervisors. this is day number 29 and the refund has still not been issued to us even though we have documentation from the hotel that they issued a refund back to booketta who sent it to getaroom who sent it to priceline who claims they can see that it was refunded yet no one can tell me why it was not sent back to me.

  5. Nancy Gottschall says:

I just got scammed too. Thought I was booking on a Best Western Website. When I got the confirmation email, they had charged me $250 in fees and the confirmation email came from hotelvalues.com. I only knew they charged these fees after I had given credit card info and when I received the confimration email. I called the hotel directly to as what was going on, they said that they’ve been having guests call with the same complaint but cannot do anything about it. They said my reservation was made through priceline…I have NEVER reserved anything on Priceline. When I finally got through to Priceline (many hours on hold navigating their phone system) they said that it was booked through their hotel partner, getaroom. So back on extensive holds to get through to someone at getaroom and was advised that the reservation was nonrefundable per hotel policy…I DID NOT agree to a nonrefundable reservation!! I advised that I spoke directly with the hotel and that is not their policy. They still would not refund my money and said that they’d be happy to cancel the reservation but I would not get any refunds. I have now turned it over to my credit card company.
    Please beware!!

  6. Mary Mace says:

Did exact same thing. Booked what I thought was Hampton Inn and turned out to be bookaroom website. Was charged even though they booked it in the wrong town. Refused refund. Turned it over to credit card company and so far they refused to talk with them.

  8. Nancy Ouellet says:

I just fell victim to this exact scam (June 25, 2023). Website appears to be Holiday Inn Express Davenport Iowa RESERVATIONS, but when I received the confirmation it was from “confirmation@hotelvalues.com” and I was charged $499.95 – $120. in fees over the advertised rate by CCI*Hotel. Credit Card company (EZ card branded as Midwest Operating Engineers Local 150 Credit Union) refused to intervene. I’ve cancelled the card for fear of more charges from CCI*, including charges for cancelling something I didn’t intend to purchase in the first place. We are waiting to see if we actually have a room, albeit one that we overpaid for, on August 30, 2023 in Davenport and if we do, well, we overpaid. However, if CCI* (or GET A ROOM, or Hotel Values, or whatever name they use) has cancelled the prepaid reservation we will withhold payment from the credit card and it will they (the credit card company) who is ultimately scammed by their own customer who they refused to help. The credit card companies are complicit in this deception by allowing the charge to go through in the first place.

  9. Nancy Simmering says:

I have just been scammed out of $1800+! They won’t refund my money even though they charged me nearly $700 in fees that were not disclosed.

  10. Kecia Duffy says:

I have also been scammed by guestreservations.com, they spoofed the hotel website and charged an extra $40 on the 90 room rate
