More and more IUD patients are coming forward with allegations of serious pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms from their Mirena IUD. According to some of these patients, the Mirena birth control method can cause complications, including pseudotumor cerebri (PTC).
If you have suffered from pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms after being implanted with the Mirena IUD, you may be able to file a Mirena lawsuit.
Mirena IUD Basics
The Mirena IUD is a popular form of birth control, manufactured and distributed by Bayer Healthcare and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently, in 2009.
Mirena is a small and flexible long-acting IUD implant that is implanted in the uterus. Over time, the Mirena device slowly releases a birth control hormone called levonorgesterel into the uterus.
Unlike oral birth control, the hormones from the Mirena IUD are released directly into the uterus. To compensate for this, Mirena uses a lower level of hormones.
Certain kinds of birth control have been linked with pseudotumor cerebri problems since as far back as the 1990s. However, new research suggests that the Mirena IUD specifically may place patients at particular risk. A June 2015 study noted Mirena was linked with a “higher than expected number of reports of ICH,” or intra-cranial hypertension, another term for pseudotumor cerebri.
Pseudotumor Cerebri Mirena Symptoms
Pseudotumor cerebri is named this because it shares a number of symptoms with actual brain tumors, but PTC is not actually a tumor. Though this condition is not fatal, patients that suffer from pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms can experience pain and even permanent damage.
Pseudotumor cerebri is caused by the buildup of excess cerebrospinal fluid in the skull. As you might expect, this can cause serious problems. Excess cerebrospinal fluid can result in several pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms, including extreme pressure inside the skull, headaches and migraines.
As the pressure builds, it may begin to affect a patient’s vision, causing partial vision loss or even total blindness. Treatment for pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms should be sought as soon as possible.
Look out for these pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms while using a Mirena IUD:
- Headaches
- Migraines
- Dizziness
- Nausea and/or vomiting
- Changes in vision
- Ringing or “whooshing” in the ears
- Problems walking
- Neck stiffness
- Forgetfulness
- Depression
Filing a Mirena PTC Lawsuit
A growing number of Mirena IUD lawsuits against Bayer Healthcare allege that company failed to warn the public and the medical community about the serious risks of pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms.
Birth control lawyers are looking for women who have been diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) after using a variety of birth control methods including Mirena IUD, Depo-Provera and Ortho Evra.
If you or someone you love has suffered from Mirena IUD complications such as pseudotumor cerebri, you may be able to file a Mirena IUD lawsuit.
While filing such a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms, filing a Mirena PTC lawsuit may help to compensate for the pain and suffering that PTC and its associated medical procedures and costs have caused.
