A Xarelto bleeding injuries lawsuit has been filed on behalf of the estate of a deceased individual who allegedly suffered fatal injuries because of the popular medication’s severe side effects. The plaintiff is the surviving daughter of a man who took Xarelto between August of 2012 through April of 2016.
He was prescribed Xarelto for the treatment of his atrial fibrillation condition. According to the Xarelto bleeding injuries lawsuit, as a proximate and direct result of his use of Xarelto, he suffered severe injuries including hematuria and anemia.
Those injuries allegedly occurred in December of 2015 and required hospitalization of the plaintiff. The decedent’s physician immediately instructed him to stop taking Xarelto as a result of the severe injuries, but the patient died on Feb. 11, 2017, the complaint says.
The Xarelto bleeding injuries lawsuit says that the manufacturers knew or should have known about the serious risks associated with the use of Xarelto and failed to warn the medical community or the patient that this placed the patient at risk for fatal injuries.
The primary purpose of Xarelto is to reduce the risk of systemic embolism and stroke for those patients who have non-valvular atrial fibrillation. The medication can also be used for prophylaxis of DVT, to treat DVT directly or pulmonary embolism. Unfortunately, the severe side effects associated with the drug, including Xarelto bleeding injuries, were allegedly not appropriately explained to patients who were given the oral anticoagulant.
According to the Xarelto bleeding injuries lawsuit filed by the surviving daughter on behalf of the father who suffered catastrophic injuries, the medication was marketed as a safe replacement for warfarin. Warfarin has been a safe treatment on the market for treating systemic embolism and stroke over the previous 60 years.
However, a number of different side effects including Xarelto bleeding injuries were reported by patients who began to take this new drug.
The Xarelto bleeding lawsuit and others like it further allege that the studies used to promote approval of the product and referenced in the marketing materials about the safety of the drug inaccurately represented the side effects and the risks.
Allegedly, the study gave a misconception about the safety of the medication that put every patient using it at severe risk of catastrophic injuries.
As with any medication, there are risks of side effects for a patient both in the short and long term. Given the high risk of Xarelto bleeding injuries as shared in numerous lawsuits filed, any patient who experiences sudden and unexplained pain and side effects should report those concerns directly to their doctor. Internal bleeding risks can cause the patient to suffer fatal injuries.
When side effects are not shared with a patient when the medication is prescribed, or if doctors are not given accurate information about risks tied to usage, patients may suffer serious or even irreparable damage.
The Xarelto Bleeding Injuries Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-CV-03318-EEF-MBN filed in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.
