Rhonda is seeking relief and judgment in the form of compensatory damages, punitive damages, interest, costs of suit and any additional relief that the Court deems appropriate.

Benicar Intestinal Damage

Benicar (olmesartan) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure in individuals. The medication works by dilating blood vessels so that the blood can flow more freely, reducing the strain and pressure and easing the demand on the heart.

While the medication has been found to be very useful in many patients who have not had their blood pressure successfully lowered by other means, the drug is not without risk.

The majority of complications and side effects that arise from the use of the drug impact the body’s gastrointestinal tract.

Many patients visit their doctor with complaints of symptoms mirroring that of celiac disease, a severe allergy to gluten, the protein found in barley, wheat and rye. However, most patients test negative for the condition.

What has been found are related conditions known as villous atrophy and malabsorption. Together, in the absence of celiac disease, these cause a condition referred to as sprue-like enteropathy.

The Benicar intestinal damage experienced by patients is more specifically referred to as a drug-induced sprue-like enteropathy.

Patients experiencing these gastrointestinal complications may suffer from malabsorption, malnutrition, severe diarrhea that leads to electrolyte imbalance and dehydration which may result in hospitalization and other conditions related to the Benicar intestinal damage.
