UMG Online Membership Program Class Action Settlement
By Mike Holter
Were you charged for one of the subscription Membership Programs described below after an online transaction between 2006 and 2011? If so, you may be entitled to a cash payment of $10 or up to $40 per Membership Program from a class action lawsuit settlement.
A federal Court has preliminarily approved a $2.85 million class action lawsuit settlement with United Marketing Group (“UMG”) and several other Defendants over allegations they improperly enrolled consumers into membership programs, and charged them, without their knowledge or consent after they visited a website owned or operated by one of the Defendants.
Plaintiffs in the United Marketing Group class action lawsuit settlement allege they and other consumers were enrolled in and charged for one of more of UMG’s membership programs following online transactions at websites owned and/or operated by Permission, Pikes Peak and Taylor Gifts. The Plaintiffs alleged violation of the Electronic Funds Transfer Act, violations of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, breach of contract and unjust enrichment. The Defendants deny all wrongdoing, but have agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to avoid ongoing litigation.
