UPDATE: Detailed claim filing instructions can be found here in our Open Class Action Lawsuits section.
Â
Starbucks has reached a $1.7 million class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it tacked on a hidden fee for bulk coffee bean purchases of less than one pound. Customers that purchased less than one pound of scooped (i.e., not prepackaged) coffee beans between 2007 and 2011 may be entitled to receive at least $5 from the class action settlement.
The Starbucks coffee bean settlement will resolve several class action lawsuits consolidated as In Re: Starbucks Consumer Litigation in 2011. Plaintiffs allege in the class action lawsuits that Starbucks did not disclose to customers who purchased small quantities of scooped coffee beans that the price for these purchases was higher per pound than the price charged for purchases of one pound of coffee beans.
Starbucks denies the allegations but has agreed to a $1,733,025 class action lawsuit settlement to resolve the litigation.
The settlement does not involve purchases of prepackaged coffee beans or coffee beverages.
Class Members of the Starbucks class action settlement include all persons who made a purchase of less than one pound of scooped coffee beans at any time between December 9, 2007 and November 7, 2011 from any company-owned Starbucks store in the United States. It does not include half-pound purchases made from January to March 2008 of coffee that had half-pound prices posted on menu boards during that time.
Class Members that made these purchases using a registered My Starbucks Rewards card will receive at least $5 credited to their card. No Claim Form required.
Class Members who did not use a My Starbucks Rewards card can opt to have their award issued in a Starbucks gift card or check. These Class Members must submit a Claim Form by December 23, 2013 in order to receive an award.
Claim Forms and more information on your rights in the Starbucks Coffee Bean Fee Class Action Lawsuit Settlement can be found here on the Starbucks website.

This is a rip off, the number of purchases and the amout that they charge, Starbucks is giving us pennies back.
What I didn’t read was that the coffee you purchased was NOT prepackaged. This was very rare for 99% of us.
