Einstein Bros Bagels recall overview:

  • Who: Schreiber Foods Inc. is recalling 144 cases of Einstein Bros. Bagels Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread.
  • Why: The recall is due to undeclared almonds due to a packaging error, posing a risk to those with almond allergies.
  • Where: The recall is active in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming.

Schreiber Foods is recalling certain lots of its Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread distributed under the Einstein Bros. Bagels brand.

The recall affects 144 cases of the product due to the presence of undeclared almonds, which could trigger severe allergic reactions in individuals with almond allergies. The  recall was announced on March 27 and subsequently published by the FDA on March 28.

The affected cream cheese is packaged in 6-ounce plastic cups, labeled with a Honey Almond lid but a Plain cup, creating a mismatch that led to the oversight. The lot code for the recalled product is Best If Used By Jul 21, 2026 LO.

This issue arose from a packaging staging error, which has since been addressed and confirmed to be isolated to this specific product.

“Consumers who have purchased retail Einstein Bros. Brand Honey Almond Cream Cheese Spread with a Lot Code of Jul 21, 2026LO with a mismatched cup and lid are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the Einstein Bros. Bagels recall says.

Recalled spread shipped to Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming

The recall was prompted by a packaging error where the product’s lid correctly identified it as Honey Almond, while the cup incorrectly labeled it as Plain, which does not contain almonds.

This discrepancy was discovered after the product had already been shipped to stores in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Wyoming. Schreiber Foods has since rectified the packaging issue and confirmed that it was limited to this batch of cream cheese spread.

“This voluntary recall was initiated after shipment of product with mismatched lid and cup was discovered,” the recall notice says.

Schreiber Foods is taking proactive steps to address the situation by offering a full refund to consumers who return the affected product to the place of purchase.

The company has also set up a contact point for consumers with questions or concerns, which can be accessed through the Einstein Bros. website.

No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with this recall. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Also in March, Savannah Bee Company recalled Honey BBQ Sauce-Mustard due to the presence of undeclared wheat and soy in a labeling error.
