A recently filed Propecia lawsuit claims the drug that is commonly prescribed to treat male pattern baldness caused a man to suffer from Propecia erectile dysfunction and other related side effects. The Propecia lawsuit was consolidated into a multidistrict litigation (MDL), where other men have filed similar complaints concerning unwarned Propecia side effects.
Plaintiff Daniel K. filed the Propecia lawsuit earlier this month against Merck & Co. According to the Propecia lawsuit “Propecia’s warning label stated that only a limited number of users would experience Propecia side effects.” However, more and more men have found that the drug contains additional risks than originally supposed.
Daniel began using Propecia in 2006, and according to the Propecia lawsuit, “Plaintiff began to suffer and was diagnosed with low libido, erectile dysfunction, and related sexual dysfunction,” as a result of taking the male pattern baldness medication. Some users have experienced Propecia side effects even after they stopped using the drug.
The Propecia lawsuit claims that Merck failed to adequately warn against Propecia side effects and that they had long been aware of the alleged risks associated with the drug. Daniel is filing for strict liability, negligence, breach of implied warranties, breach of express warranty, fraud, violation of unfair and deceptive trade practices acts, and negligent as well as intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Propecia Side Effects
Propecia side effects may include, as stated in the complaint, “cognitive impairment, development of depression, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and various forms of sexual dysfunction,” which may or may not go away after the patient has stopped using the drug.
In 2003, Merck added the risk of male breast cancer to the list of potential side effects. In 2008, the defendant changed the label in Sweden to include the risk of Propecia erectile dysfunction. There was no such label change in the U.S. until 2012, when Merck finally updated their warning level to include Propecia erectile dysfunction and other side effects.
Propecia Lawsuits
This Propecia lawsuit may be able to help Daniel win compensation for his emotional and physical pain and suffering that was allegedly caused by Propecia, as well as help pay for any medical bills, time lost from work, and other losses caused by Propecia complications.
In addition to the Propecia MDL, a Propecia class action lawsuit investigation is currently underway.
