OTC Sex Enhancement Products Investigated for False Advertising

Men and women who are looking to increase sex drive and arousal may not be able to afford the costs of prescription medications that include Viagra and Cialis. The basic mechanism of action for many of these offerings is similar to those for over-the-counter diet pills that uses caffeine or other types of stimulants with the goal of increasing blood flow and increase in pulse rate. • Durex Play Utopia Female Arousal Gel; and
• Excite Sensual Gel by LifeStyles.

The latter two are reportedly formulated for and marketed to women, while VitalErotic markets its product to both men and women and alleges that users “can be ready for action at a moment’s notice.”  While the website also contains the warning that the “statements have not been evaluated by the FDA” and that it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, some consumers may have bought it for the claims and feel that they were misled by false advertising.
