Navistar, Inc. has been hit with five class action lawsuits stemming from “design and manufacturing” defects in truck engines it made for Ford Motor Co. The engines in question are known as Ford’s Power Stroke V8 Turbo diesel engines, which power the diesel versions of Ford’s F Super Duty diesel trucks and Ford Excursions.
According to one of the Navistar class action lawsuits, filed by Brandon Burns in federal court in California, “The Navistar-designed and manufactured engine powering Ford vehicles has been plagued by serious and pervasive design and manufacturing defects that render the engines and vehicles unmerchantable and unsuitable for use.”
These problems are so serious that even Ford has sued Navistar for failing to shoulder its responsibility for paying its share of the warranty costs that Ford has had to pay in connection with warranty claims filed by owners and lessees of Ford vehicles equipped with Navistar’s 6.0 L diesel engine, the class action says.
Burns’ class action lawsuit also names Ford Motor Company as a defendant for not only concealing these known defects from consumers but for also distributing advertisements that “touted and boasted about the superior qualities of the very engine that Ford had privately repudiated as being plagued by ‘unprecedented problems.’” These commercials continued to be distributed even during and after Ford sued Navistar.
The Burns et al. v. Navistar, Inc. and Ford Motor Company class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all owners and lessees within California of Ford vehicles model years 2003 through 2007 equipped with Navistar’s 6.0 L diesel engine, commonly referred to as the Power Stroke V8 Turbo diesel engine.
Four other lawsuits seeking class action status have been filed against Navistar and Ford in Utah, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi.

Have s 6.0 power stroke and after 120,000 miles, the motor is completely trash as verified by a a Ford dealership. Had multiple lifter berrings, or follower berrings come apart and all the needle bearings trashed the entire engine. Need a long block and placed a pleading request to Ford for assistance of any kind and they told me tuff luck.
This truck has been a problem from the first. This F250 has been a real hole to put your money in. In the last 2 years only on engin problem $5100, not the way to sell Fords!!!

My parents have a 2004 F-350 that they use to haul the mail. They have spent over $20,000 on this truck. Recently they spent $5100 , and it lasted 6 days ! Can anyone tell us how to get involved with the class action lawsuit ?
Here’s the fix, swap that POS Powerstroke out for a Cummins. After struggling wiht my 6.0L endlessly, getting no help from Ford and being systematically violated by the dealership I ditched that lump of garbage and put a real engine in. The only fix for a ford truck is to pitch that engine in the bin. Now I just hope someone files a class action in Canada.

I own a 2004 Excursion 6.0 diesel with either leaking egr cooler and or head gasket trouble. Its is my wifes daily driver. Ford dealer said they are aware of the trouble but offered no help as the truck is out of warranty by years, not milage. It currently uses about 1.5 gallons of water a week. I need to get it fixed and have been quoted $6500 for the repairs wich do not cover the turbo that is starting to stick. Truck started having trouble around 72000 miles. Are we going to see any help from Ford as a result of the class action or am i still on my own?
Well I made another mistake – spent the $10K thinking this would fix the problem and has not. I put new head gaskets, rebuilt heads, ARP studs, new turbo, Radiator, EGR cooler, EGR, Map Sensor etc, etc – and still not working.
i just hope that with this they can help people in other states like montana it is very expensive to fix then having to deal with the dealership that treat you like shit.
