Medical Associates of Brevard, based in Melbourne, Florida, has alerted nearly 250,000 individuals about a data breach that compromised personal and protected health information.

The breach was discovered in January 2025 when the healthcare organization has been working with third-party experts to secure its systems.

The breach notification was submitted to the Maine Attorney General’s Office on Sept. 5, 2025. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the breach has impacted 246,711 people.

The BianLian ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it accessed personal information, emails, databases and documents related to accounting, human resources and partners.

“While the number of affected individuals might seem significant, it’s common for healthcare data breaches to impact a large number of people,” the data breach notice says.

Medical Associates of Brevard has not found evidence that the information has been misused, but it is taking the matter seriously and has apologized for any inconvenience caused.
