Medical Associates of Brevard, based in Melbourne, Florida, has alerted nearly 250,000 individuals about a data breach that compromised personal and protected health information.
The breach was discovered in January 2025 when the healthcare organization has been working with third-party experts to secure its systems.
The breach notification was submitted to the Maine Attorney General’s Office on Sept. 5, 2025. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the breach has impacted 246,711 people.
The BianLian ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it accessed personal information, emails, databases and documents related to accounting, human resources and partners.
“While the number of affected individuals might seem significant, it’s common for healthcare data breaches to impact a large number of people,” the data breach notice says.
Medical Associates of Brevard has not found evidence that the information has been misused, but it is taking the matter seriously and has apologized for any inconvenience caused.
Data breach prompts enhanced security measures at Medical Associates of Brevard
In response to the breach, Medical Associates of Brevard has implemented additional security enhancements and continues to assess and strengthen its cybersecurity measures.
It arranged for Experian to provide 12 to 24 months of free credit monitoring services to those affected. Impacted individuals are encouraged to enroll in these services to protect their identity and personal information.

Consumers can also visit the Experian website to enroll in credit monitoring services using the provided enrollment code and engagement number.
Medical Associates of Brevard says it has not received any reports of misuse of the compromised information so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the breach, but Top Class Actions follows such incidents closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In another recent data breach, UI Community HomeCare, a home infusion and medical equipment services company, notified more than 211,000 patients on July 3 of a data breach that compromised personal information.
