Maytag Centennial Washing Machine Class Action Lawsuit

Consumers are claiming in a federal class action lawsuit that Whirlpool, Lowe’s and Sears sold Maytag Centennial washing machines with an ENERGY STAR logo, but that the machines do not meet the ENERGY STAR standards.
According to the Maytag Centennial class action lawsuit, ENERGY STAR-qualified washing machines are required by the U.S. Department of Energy to use approximately 37% less energy and 50% less water than standard models. They are more expensive than standard models, but they come with the promise of reduced energy and water bills that, over time, will generate enough savings to recoup the higher price.
“This is the fundamental bargain the ENERGY STAR program offers: consumers pay a higher up-front price initially but save more on energy bills over time using the product,” the Maytag Centennial washing machine class action lawsuit states.
For consumers who purchased the mislabeled Maytag Centennial washing machines, however, the promised savings from reduced energy bills never came. “Instead, Class Members were hit with a costly double-whammy: a higher up-front price… followed by higher energy bills,” the class action lawsuit states.
The mislabeled Maytag Centennial washing machines are model numbers MVWC6ESWW0, MVWC6ESWW1, and MVWC7ESWW0.
The Maytag Centennial ENERGY STAR class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all U.S. consumers who purchased one of the mislabeled Maytag Centennial model numbers listed above. It is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, restitution, prejudgment interest, and other relief for alleged violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty of merchantability, unjust enrichment, unfair competition, false advertising and consumer fraud.

I also have the MVWC400XW4 and i hate it!!!! this washer does not clean our clothes. It leaves soap, residue on them and don’t even use the downy ball is will leaves stains on all your clothes then you have to rewash 2 or 3 times to get it out. It takes an 1 1/2 hours to do one load of clothes and there isn’t a short wash mode. You can’t put some what folded cloths (returned for a trip and placed the from suitcase to washer) in it they will still be folded when you take them out. the sensing cycle runs for 20 min and if it’s a light load sometimes won’t even start. Do not wash bra’s or anything delicate it will tear them to shreds or tangle them up so badly it take and hour to untangle and now there out of shape.So, the low water theory and the energy efficient doesn’t apply here if you have to wash and rewash your clothes several times to get them clean or completely destories your clothes. Warranty is up on ours since we bought it a year ago at Home Depot. over $500.00 for a piece of crap!! total fraud

MVWC400XW4 This washer does not clean the clothes and in fact ruins them by tearing them to sheds and stretching them out of shape. Our theory is that it boasts low water usage but the result is clothes that are not clean and possibly ruined. Folks, there is a reason that ample water is needed to clean the clothes. That’s always how it’s been done. Maytag, admit it, it is a design flaw. Your newer machine addresses that issue. Why, because you manufactured and sold a product that should never have gotten off of the drawing board. Unfortunately, we bought that piece of junk six months ago and Maytag insists that it is working as it should. In other words they are saying that it is not supposed to get the clothes clean, they are saying that the machine is supposed to ruin clothes. According to the factory service technician, that large tub should only be filled one third full, so forget ever washing a pillow, bedspread, blanket, bath rug or drape. Don’t buy this machine and don’t buy at Lowes
MVWC6ESWW1 had 3 years, looked up lawsuit on energy efficient failure, after it failed and flooded my house because the inlet valve never closed looking for some sort of compensation…
