A Pennsylvania man recently filed a lawsuit against Monsanto, alleging that he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma as a direct result of using Roundup.
The plaintiff, Michael T., says he began using Roundup in the 1980s. Michael says his use of Roundup was for his home. He used the product for around 20 years, and followed the instruction and warning labels, he alleges.
Unfortunately, Michael was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in August 2005, and he alleges that this diagnosis was caused by his decades of exposure to Roundup.
However, Michael claims that since he wasn’t made aware about the health risks of the weedkiller for decades, it wasn’t until after the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) published its evaluation of glyphosate and its link to these risks that Michael first realized the product may have exposed him to the risk of cancer.
Michael filed his Roundup Monsanto lawsuit on May 7, 2018 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The Roundup lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including negligence, design defect, failure to warn, and breach of implied warranties.
Background of Roundup
Glyphosate (the active ingredient of Roundup) has been the most widely used herbicide in America since 2001. Since 2013, it’s been the most widely used through the entire world, with hundreds of millions of pounds of the weedkiller used annually.
Unfortunately, exposure to glyphosate has been associated with a number of serious risks, including the development of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Risks of Roundup Exposure Include Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma
A growing number of plaintiffs are filing lawsuits against Monsanto, alleging that they were diagnosed with cancer as a result of exposure to the product and its active ingredient, glyphosate. Many of those who have been diagnosed with Roundup-associated cancer include
Indeed, the Environmental Protection Agency began to suspect a connection between Roundup and cancer since the 1980s. A recent report published in March 2015 by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that glyphosate is linked with a number of types of cancer.
Because of these risks, several countries have responded by banning the sale of Roundup and other herbicides with the active ingredient glyphosate. Countries that have instituted some kind of glyphosate ban include the Netherlands, France, Bermuda, and Sri Lanka.
Filing a Roundup Monsanto Lawsuit
Lawsuits allege that Monsanto misrepresented the actual safety of its weed killer product, downplaying the risks when it was actually aware of the cancer link.
If you are one of the countless people who use Roundup and have since been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma or another cancer after using Roundup, you may be able to file a Roundup Monsanto lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by Roundup-related cancer, or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
The Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-01905-JHS, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
If you or a loved one developed cancer after using Roundup as a farm worker or home gardener, you may have a legal claim. Legal migrant farm workers may also seek help. Learn more by filling out the form on this page for a FREE case evaluation.
