Santa Ana Harbor Breeze Santa Ana ceiling fan recallA ceiling fan sold at Lowe’s stores was recently recalled due to concerns that the fixture can break, resulting in the fan blades ejecting.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on Feb. 13. According to the agency, manufacturer Fanim Industries voluntarily recalled their Harbor Breeze Santa Ana ceiling fan which was sold exclusively at Lowe’s.

The recall was prompted by concerns that the blade holders on the Lowe’s ceiling fan can detach. As a result, the blades can reportedly be ejected from the fan – posing a risk of injury.

Fanim has received 210 reports of the Lowe’s ceiling fan breaking, including 10 reports where the fan blades hit customers.

“In rare circumstances the blade holder of the Santa Ana Ceiling Fan can develop cracks and possibly break,” the manufacturer notes on their website.

“Out of an abundance of caution and in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Fanim Industries has elected to conduct this voluntary recall.”

The recalled Lowe’s ceiling fan has a modern design featuring two dark walnut fan blades, brushed-nickel blade arm holders and a frosted-white light fixture. The fans were sold exclusively as Lowe’s for around $150 between May 2014 and January 2016.

Around 70,000 units are included in the recall. These Lowe’s ceiling fan products can be identified by their model number LP8294LBN and UPC code 840506599178. The UPC code would be shown on the product packaging, while the model number can be found both on the fan motor and on the inside of the battery compartment cover, found in the fan’s included handheld remote.

Individuals who purchased the Lowe’s ceiling fan are instructed to stop using the fans and contact Fanim for a free set of replacement blade holders.

Even if consumers have not experienced problems with their ceiling fan, they are instructed to replace the older blade holders to prevent any future incidents or injuries.

The replacement blade holders can reportedly be installed without taking the fan down off the ceiling. Replacement instructions are available on Fanim’s website.

According to Fanim, these replacement blade holders have been through “extensive testing” which ensure that the holders will not have the same problems.

Unlike the original blade holders which were made of zinc alloy, the replacement holders are reportedly thicker, wider and made of aluminum alloy.

“The updated blade holders go above and beyond the required specifications,” Fanim assures consumers.

Consumers can contact Fanim Industries about the Lowe’s ceiling fan recall at 888-434-3797 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or through email at recall@fanimation.com. Consumers can also fill out a recall form online on the manufacturer’s website.

When manufacturers like Fanim implement voluntary recalls, the CPSC works with these companies to organize the recalls and inform consumers.

The CPSC also helps to enforce these recalls through federal laws that prohibit the sale of products which are subject to a publicly announced voluntary recall.
