LG Dishwasher LED Control Panel Defect Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Mark Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA, Inc.
  • Why: Wheeler claims LG knowingly sells some of its QuadWash-enabled dishwashers with defective LED control panels.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

LG Electronics USA knowingly sells certain dishwashers containing defective LED control panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Mark Wheeler claims some of LG’s QuadWash-enabled dishwashers are eventually rendered “inoperable” due to the alleged LED control panel defect.

Wheeler claims moisture is able to penetrate the LED control panels and damage the electronic parts within them on account of the defect.

The water damage eventually renders the dishwasher’s control panel “unresponsive” and makes it so that it can no longer be used to “commence a wash cycle as expected or intended,” the LG class action alleges.

Wheeler claims LG has known about the defect since at least 2015 due to receiving consumer complaints but yet has failed to either remedy the issue or disclose it to the public.

“Although LG has long known, or had reason to know, that Class Dishwashers’ Control Panels are Defective and are unfit for their ordinary and intended purpose and incapable of performing as warranted, LG failed to disclose and actively concealed this material fact from Plaintiffs and the Class,” the LG class action states.

LG Class Action Claims Replacement Dishwasher Part Also Likely Fail

Wheeler argues the only way for a consumer to be able to continue using the dishwasher is to replace the control panel with a “non-defective replacement component,” which will also “likewise fail shortly after installation.”

“Because LG repairs Class Dishwashers using defective Control Panels that are doomed to fail, its warranty offers little in the way of actual relief and fails of its essential purpose,” the LG class action states.

Further, Wheeler argues LG adds “insult to injury” by claiming the defect does not exist after its one-year “labor and parts” warranty ends, at which point he says the company declines to offer further coverage.

Wheeler claims LG is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

Wheeler wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased one or more of an affected LG QuadWash-enabled dishwasher.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.

LG agreed to pay $1.5 million last year to resolve claims it sold defective refrigerators that failed to maintain the temperature level necessary to preserve perishables such as food and medicine.

Model #LDT7797BD. Quit working today. It always had an off and on burning smell, LG told me it was normal for newer appliances when I originally called them

    1. Jack Holt says:

Online chat with LG and they are supposedly sending a tech out to repair on 9/10. Free repair because of safety issue. We’ll see if they really fix it.

      1. Jay says:

I’m surprised they’re sending a tech out. I got the brush off from LG.

  2. Ken says:

    Add me. I have LDT5665BD.

  3. John Rademaker says:

my LG dishwasher LDTS5552S has leaked from installation, LG and the dealership store refuse to address the issue of leakage. Add me.

  4. Javier Sanchez says:

I have the LDF5545ST with infamous cracked panel. Add me to this class action suit.

  5. Camille Boutwell says:

Please add me to the lawsuit. I have an LG dishwasher LDP 6797BD that is three years old. It just stopped working and smelled like something was burning. Called LG licensed repair who said main board was bad and ordered a new one to be installed. Once they came out they advised that the control panel caused the main board to go out and to contact LG. I did so and LG refused to cover because it is over a year old. I will now have to pay the repair company twice for service call/labor and have to have them order the parts one under warranty and one not. It’s only three years old! I should not have to spend this kind of money for something to work properly.

  6. Nancy K McDermott says:

LG LDF5545ST dishwasher purchased 1/24/2019. I press POWER/AUTO/START. Countdown begins 4-3-2-1, then it flashes 2:19 (2 hours/19 minutes) and just continues flashing. Doesn’t start. I open, close, open close, start again and again and again. It flashes, it chimes… so, so frustrating. I even purchased a new Control Panel Assembly and replaced the old one (very easy to do) and it is doing the exact same thing. So, did I spend $210 for nothing? Maybe so.
PLEASE ADD ME TO THE CLASS ACTION SUIT.

  7. Janice Homer says:

We have brand new dishwasher. Control panel not working… on indefinite back order. Count me in

  8. Katy Monson says:

We have a LDF5545ST Dishwasher and have had many issues with the LED display, now we have lost all functionality of the dishwasher. The really frustrating issue we are facing now is that we can’t find a repair company willing to work with LG. I’ve called 7 different appliance repair shops and many refuse to work with LG because they have outstanding invoices with LG. LG is not paying for work performed under warranty. They knowingly sold faulty appliances and are also shorting small “ma & pop” appliance repair companies all over my state. Please add me.

  9. Deborah Perras says:

I have the same problem and they are charging me to fix it. My model number is included in the suit. Please add me.

  10. Satish M says:

Same problem with my LG LDF5545ST purchased on 09/May/2019. Had first electronic control board replaced in 2020 just after 1 year of use. Now I see the same problem in May 2022. The cirulation motor is also making ear piercing noise and unbearable. LG authorized service quoted me $209 for cirulation pump and $427 for labor. Labor is not covered by the 10 year warranty. In total I have spent more than 100 hours with LG dishwasher issues and no compensation for it.
