LegalZoomLegalZoom.com, the website that helps users prepare their own wills, trusts and other legal documents, has been served some legal documents of its own. A class action lawsuit accuses LegalZoom of unfair and misleading business practices. This is the second potential class action lawsuit LegalZoom is facing this year; the first class action complaint alleges LegalZoom illegally practices law.

The most recent class action lawsuit alleges “LegalZoom misleads customers about the availability and helpfulness of its customer service personnel, the extent of its 100 percent satisfaction guarantee, the degree to which documents are customized, and the quality of LegalZoom’s documents compared to those prepared by an attorney,” according to a news report. It also alleges the company “failed to comply with laws and regulations governing practice of law in California, led customers to practice law without a license, assisted in unauthorized practice of law, and used fraudulent business practices.”

If approved, the class action lawsuit will seek damages for all class members.

  1. Michael Teague says:

In January 2026 had Legal Zoom file an LLC and a DBA for me. 2 months later when I checked my bank I noticed they had taken 49 a month for a subscription plan. I contacted them and stated I did not authorize this and that I want my money back and why do they have my card on file as it was supposed to only be used for my initial purchase. Was supposed to get a call back no calls and nothing but run around. No receipts sent to my email if I did not check my bank statement it could have went on without me even knowing. Looks like I have to cancel my debit card to get this ended.

Can I be added to the lawsuit? I just finished paying 3 years of state filings that were paid through legal zoom and were never paid to the state, leaving my business noncompliant and inactive.

  3. Melissa Wilson says:

I just used legal zoom to form an LLC in Ga I singed up for the basic package and was shown I would be charged 105 dollars, When I checked out they had a ton of upcharges and services which I declined. I selected that I would be my own registered agent. I got to the end of the uncharges declined them and was taken to the final page to check out. It showed a balance of 105 for the basic package so I checked out. I received a receipt in my email showing 105. Later on I get a notification from my bank I was charges an additional 249 dollars for a subscription I didnt authorize. As a matter of fact legal zoom didn’t even send me a receipt for this charge. I found out from a bank alert! Very deceptive and slimy.

Please add me to the lawsuit. I used LegalZoom to start my LLC. I since canceled my services last year yet they still draft my account and come up with an excuse why they cannot refund my money. They say that they show in the system where it has been canceled, but continue to draft my account I have changed accounts and everything they steal continue to take my money. I think this is fraudulent behavior and I want actions taken

    2. Molly Menezes says:

I too used legal Zoom for a start up business. Little did I know they fraudulently signed me up for subscriptions and racked up over 3000 dollar charges to my account. They excepted full blame and stated that they did in fact take money out without my permission but still refused to refund me! Legal zoom is a scam! Looking for a class action suit to join to fight against this fraudulent company

      1. Barbara Mascaro says:

Please add me! I was trying to obtain my 501c3 tax exemption status for my nonprofit & was ripped off by Legal Zoom!

  6. Laura Nestor says:

I paid legal zoom to dissolve a business – they didn’t follow through so I had to do it myself – and they kept charging me the recurring fee to be a registered agent for a business dissolved 1.5 years prior.

  7. LoveAndLoyalDreams LLC says:

I used legal zoom just now & I am going through something similar. I filled out creating my LLC. and denied all other services and they charged me for Everything I denied plus refuse to pay me a refund and threatening me to in 60 days ( now 30 days due to decline of then trying to take my money out my credit card 7 times prior ) starting 7/15/23 so now I have to get amendment cause they CLAIM they are my RA and NONE of my papers list them.

  8. David L Mitchell says:

I used Legal Zoom years ago and in 1 case I was satisfied but when I tried to get a copy right and followed their instructions they did not get me a copy right and then refused to refund all my money I paid for nothing. I did get a partial refund but not all of my money back. It’s probably too many years now, almost 18-19 but they are crooks.

    1. Charles says:
