Are Kashi’s “All Natural” products really all they’re cracked up to be? Not according to a federal class action lawsuit, which claims Kashi Co. and Kellogg Company mislabeled their products as free of artificial ingredients, even though they knew that some of their GoLean and TLC products are “composed almost entirely of synthetic and unnaturally processed ingredients.” Some of these synthetic ingredients are even listed by the FDA as prescription drugs and federally declared hazardous substances, the Kashi class action lawsuit alleges.
Kellogg has already settled at least two false advertising class action lawsuits concerning the nutritional claims of its Rice Krispies Cereal (file a claim to receive up to $15 from the Rice Krispies settlement here) and its Frosted Mini Wheats.
According to the Kashi class action lawsuit, “Defendants inserted a spectacular array of unnaturally processed and synthetic ingredients to its so-called ‘all-natural’ products. For example, Kashi’s so-called ‘All Natural’ GoLean Shakes are composed almost entirely of synthetic and unnaturally processed ingredients.”
In fact, the Kashi class action continues, in many of Kashi’s products, “unnaturally processed and synthetic ingredients constitute the primary ingredients in these fraudulently-labeled ‘all-natural’ foods.”
Some of these “shocking” ingredients include synthetic substances listed as prescription drugs, irradiated substances, pesticides that are a by-product of uranium mining, and federally declared hazardous substances, the class action lawsuit states. Kashi also adds several ingredients that the FDA has declined to declare as a “safe” food additive, and several highly processed exitotoxins to its products that are hidden sources of MSG.
The Kashi class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of a proposed class of all U.S. consumers who purchased falsely labeled Kashi products in the U.S. It is seeking restitution and restoration of any money Class Members paid for these products, damages and penalties for Class Members, and other relief.

The case is Michael Bates v. Kashi Company, Kellogg Company, et al., Case No. 11-cv-1967, U.S. District Court, Southern District of California.

Wish these companies would be honest with products. Now we have to read everything on every item we buy just to make sure we are getting what we think we are. SHAME ON THEM
Such a disappointment. I’d relied on this ‘boxed’ cereal because of the company claims. Now wondering how many headaches I’ve endured are because of it …
So sad, I just found about this. I purchased Kashi cereal for my daughter. What a bummer we can’t trust food companies to do what is right. How do I know whether eating this cereal has caused perhaps some of the health problems we have been dealing with.
I need information on the status of the lawsuit. Is it too late to join the class?
All you have to do is read the ingredient list of any of their products. If something has natural ingredients it shouldn’t take up 3+ inches of space on a box. For example I believe Nature Valley Granola Bars had five ingredients (all natural) and Kashi’s list was over an inch long!!!!! Check out the cereal list. It’s crazy! What a joke!
I have been eating Kashi for years. I ate it every day for breakfast while I was pregnant. I am not impressed. Not at all.
I started buying this product after I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure in 2009. My boss was eating GO Lean and suggested that I started using this product. Now two years later I find out that the company’s product is not all natural. Wow so much for being healthy!!!
Now I know why I have been getting migraines. I am completely effected by synthetic ingredients. This is why my cereals, power bars etc. are all Kashi. I will stop buying these products; please include me as a part of this class action suit.
I have been purchasing and consuming Kashi products on a weekly basis. I have paid the extra expense compared to similar products such as ceral, snacks, and frozen dinners because I thought I was eating something more healthy than the other options. Now I find out that Kashi has been putting un-natural ingredients in their “all natural” products. What a scam. So much for eating healthy huh!
Here it is…..
