a metal-based contrast used in MRIs has led to a Gadolinium Deposition Disease LawsuitGE Healthcare Inc. and several other pharmaceutical companies are facing a gadolinium deposition disease lawsuit, which was recently filed by a couple from Louisiana. According to the gadolinium disease lawsuit, the wife allegedly developed serious side effects after undergoing an MRI scan using this type of contrast.

Plaintiff couple Nicole R. and Andy R. conjointly filed this gadolinium deposition disease lawsuit on Nicole’s complaint that GE Healthcare had allegedly failed to warn her and her physician against the adverse effects of gadolinium based IV contrasts used with her MRI.

Gadolinium is a heavy metal. It is often used for MRI contrast fluid because its magnetic nature improves the diagnostic images. This makes organs, blood vessels, and tissues easier to analyze, and gives healthcare professionals the ability to better diagnose cancer or other serious conditions.

With gadolinium based contrast being commonly used for MRI procedures, it is important for GE Healthcare to provide precautionary warnings against potentially serious side effects.

Overview of Gadolinium Deposition Disease Lawsuit

According to the gadolinium MRI lawsuit, Nicole had undergone an MRI using a gadolinium based contrast fluid on May 30, 2017. This MRI was meant to give doctors a clear image of her brain, but this routine procedure quickly turned dangerous for Nicole, she claims.

Nicole reportedly suffered a serious allergic reaction from the gadolinium IV contrast, and had to be hospitalized several times to treat it. At this point, Nicole claims she is currently contending with the long term of effects of gadolinium poisoning. It wasn’t until recently that she learned that the FDA warned against potentially dangerous complications from gadolinium use.

The FDA issued a public safety warning regarding gadolinium based IV contrast, stating the metal particles could stay inside the patient for months or even years after being utilized intravenously.

Gadolinium deposition disease is a term applied to many different symptoms reported by patients who have undergone a gadolinium contrast MRI. This complication may occur even in patients with normal kidney function, with symptoms appearing at any point after getting the gadolinium based IV contrast implemented.

Patients who recently had gadolinium based IV contrast used for a procedure should be wary against any unusual symptoms, including:

  • Burning or Cutting Sensation in Lower Arms and Legs
  • Tightness of Hands and Feet
  • Bone or Joint Pain
  • Head or Neck Pain
  • Brain Fog
  • Progressive Skin Thickening and Discoloration
  • Chronic Headaches
  • Vision and Hearing Problems
  • Hair Loss
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Breathing Problems

Nicole and her husband opted to file this gadolinium deposition disease lawsuit, alleging GE Healthcare and other pharmaceutical companies failed to warn them against the potential risks of gadolinium based IV contrast use.

At all times relevant, Nicole and her physician had relied on the marketing statements and information provided by GE Healthcare Inc. Nicole states that she would not have agreed to have the gadolinium based IV contrast MRI if she had known the risks of gadolinium deposition disease.

This Gaolinium Deposition Disease Lawsuit is Case 2:18-cv-05473-ILRL-JVM, in the U.S. District Court of Eastern Louisiana.
