Teva Pharmaceuticals, Granules USA and Heritage Pharmaceuticals agreed to pay a combined $5.55 million class action settlement to resolve claims their metformin products were contaminated with cancer-causing N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).

The metformin class action settlement benefits consumers who paid for Teva, Granules or Heritage metformin products between July 20, 2015, and June 2, 2020.

According to the class action lawsuit, Teva, Granules and Heritage manufactured metformin-containing drugs that were contaminated with NDMA, a probable human carcinogen. The products allegedly failed to meet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards for metformin.

Metformin is a diabetes medication. Teva, Granules and Heritage manufactured generic versions of Glucophage and Glucophage XR, brand-name metformin products.

The companies have not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $5.55 million class action settlement to resolve the metformin-containing drugs class action lawsuit. Teva agreed to a $3 million settlement and Granules and Heritage have agreed to a $2.55 million settlement.

Under the terms of the metformin settlement, class members can receive a cash payment based on how much they paid for metformin-containing drugs, with amounts varying depending on the number of claims filed and eligible purchase costs.

The deadline for exclusion and objection is July 10, 2026.

The final approval hearing for the Teva, Granules and Heritage metformin settlement is scheduled for Aug. 12, 2026.

To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by July 10, 2026.

  4. Gerry Ruddock says:

And they knowingly continued to distribute it. And physicians continued to prescribe it.
No amount of money can fix this. Especially let them so casually get away with murder and knowingly harming people.
And a hundred to one they’re still in business providing the I’ll with some other drug!
