ford class action lawsuitA federal class action lawsuit claims multiple year models of Ford E-Series and F-Series pickup trucks have defective fuel tank linings that flake off and clog the fuel system, causing sudden loss of power.

The Ford defective fuel tank class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all persons in the United States who purchased or leased any of the following Ford pickup trucks:

2004-2007 Ford E-150
2004-2007 Ford E-250
2004-2007 Ford E-350
2004-2007 Ford E-450
1999-2008 Ford F-250 SD
1999-2008 Ford F-350 SD
2003, 2005-2008 Ford F-440 SD
2005-2008 F-550 SD
2004-2008 F-650 SD
2004-2008 F-750 SD

The class action lawsuit claims that since February 2007, if not before, Ford knew that the vehicles listed above and their fuel tanks contain numerous “distinct and serious” design and/or manufacturing defects that cause the inner fuel tank lining to separate and flake off, clogging the fuel systems with tank lining debris and rust, resulting in sudden loss of power to the engine and other critical systems.

Symptoms of the alleged Ford fuel tank defect include, but are not limited to, bucking and kicking, sudden loss of power steering, and sudden stalling, the class action lawsuit says.

As a result, the Class Vehicles and their fuel tanks present a safety hazard and are “unreasonably dangerous to drivers” because the defect can contribute to traffic accidents that can result in personal injury or death, the class action lawsuit says.

In addition to these safety hazards, owners of these Class Vehicles will be required to pay hundreds, and in many instances, thousands of dollars to both diagnose and repair the Ford fuel tank defect and the related damages it causes.

The Ford fuel tank defect class action lawsuit is seeking injunctive relief as well as actual, general, special, incidental, statutory, treble, punitive and consequential damages for the proposed Class of Ford owners.

The case is Galo Coba v. Ford Motor Company, Case No. 1:33-av-00001, U.S. District Court, New Jersey.

UPDATE: On Sept. 30, 2016, a federal judge granted summary judgment against the plaintiffs on the majority of their claims, a single claim under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act will remain in the Ford fuel tank defect class action lawsuit.

2004 F-450 diesel ; same exact problems, had to travel one hour back home and stalled /restarted at least 30 times to get back home , sounded like the engine was struggling for fuel. The mechanic said Injectors , fuel pump were shot because of the delaminating fuel tank, quoted 5000$ to fix these issues. If this lawsuit provides answers and solutions I would like to be contacted please. Tabi.kat90@gmail.com
This is his daughter and I’m his contact for this problem since he doesn’t do internet. But he also spent 5000$ bullet proofing tht engine because it blew a head gasket the first time we pulled anything ; these trucks are LEMONS ?, I feel that ford needs to either provide alternate parts and work free of charge , provide money to fix said issues , or give us a quality truck
Because this has been a MONEY PIT!!! 10 grand to just drive the thing after it cost 65,000$ at the dealer to purchase!

I’ve owned several Ford 6.0 trucks and swore to never do it again. But I must be a junky and got pulled back in. I bought a 2005 F-550 and back at it, keeping my mechanics pocket FAT$$$$$$$$. Once i fix this i will NEVER NEVER NEVER buy another 6.0. I’ve only had it for 17 months and had $3,000.00 worth of stuff done and now as of today 7-14-17 the fuel tank is separated and will need fixed. I could not believe the call my co-worker had to make to me. Someway somehow Ford needs to make this right with all.

I have had the same problem with my 2000 F-250 crew cab with less then 30,000 miles on the original engine. It acts like it is starved for fuel. If I try to accelerate up hill it would want to die out. I had to baby the gas pedal to bring it back home one night by trying to go faster down hill to make it up the next with lightly pressing on the gas or it would have stopped. Luckily I didn’t have to go far and there were not a lot of cars on the road. Sometimes it wouldn’t start after I drove it as if it wasn’t getting any fuel. I am afraid to drive it or tow my trailer now. It is still like new otherwise and was maintained. Please include me in the lawsuit.

I don’t think this is as isolated in model years listed above. I believe we are having exact problem in our 2010 Ford -F-250 diesel truck. Sudden loss of power on highway doing 65mph towing a 28′ travel trailer with whole family in vehicle was scary and is dangerous not to mention we now will have to have the whole fuel system and engine cleaned out.. Is there any new lawsuits for same thing on newer ford models????? I am sure it will cost us $4K or more to fix.

  9. Robert Jorgensen says:

3 times I spent over 500 to get the fuel pump replace, fuel filter replaced. Spend 2600 to get the trans replaced. Truck is doing it again, no power runs sputters when you give it gas. Guess the thing to do is replace the flaking tank with a plastic titan tank. Would like to sue Ford for all my troubles and money over this defective tank.

  10. Tina Thompson says:

Is there any results from this lawsuit? 2001 Ford F350 SD with same issue.
