ford class action lawsuitA federal class action lawsuit claims multiple year models of Ford E-Series and F-Series pickup trucks have defective fuel tank linings that flake off and clog the fuel system, causing sudden loss of power.

The Ford defective fuel tank class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of all persons in the United States who purchased or leased any of the following Ford pickup trucks:

2004-2007 Ford E-150
2004-2007 Ford E-250
2004-2007 Ford E-350
2004-2007 Ford E-450
1999-2008 Ford F-250 SD
1999-2008 Ford F-350 SD
2003, 2005-2008 Ford F-440 SD
2005-2008 F-550 SD
2004-2008 F-650 SD
2004-2008 F-750 SD

The class action lawsuit claims that since February 2007, if not before, Ford knew that the vehicles listed above and their fuel tanks contain numerous “distinct and serious” design and/or manufacturing defects that cause the inner fuel tank lining to separate and flake off, clogging the fuel systems with tank lining debris and rust, resulting in sudden loss of power to the engine and other critical systems.

Symptoms of the alleged Ford fuel tank defect include, but are not limited to, bucking and kicking, sudden loss of power steering, and sudden stalling, the class action lawsuit says.

As a result, the Class Vehicles and their fuel tanks present a safety hazard and are “unreasonably dangerous to drivers” because the defect can contribute to traffic accidents that can result in personal injury or death, the class action lawsuit says.

In addition to these safety hazards, owners of these Class Vehicles will be required to pay hundreds, and in many instances, thousands of dollars to both diagnose and repair the Ford fuel tank defect and the related damages it causes.

The Ford fuel tank defect class action lawsuit is seeking injunctive relief as well as actual, general, special, incidental, statutory, treble, punitive and consequential damages for the proposed Class of Ford owners.

The case is Galo Coba v. Ford Motor Company, Case No. 1:33-av-00001, U.S. District Court, New Jersey.

UPDATE: On Sept. 30, 2016, a federal judge granted summary judgment against the plaintiffs on the majority of their claims, a single claim under the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act will remain in the Ford fuel tank defect class action lawsuit.

  2. Richard Christian Wolters says:

Replaced EGR 4 injectors and each time said it was fixed. Drive-ability issues continue. Loosing power esp under load or highway speeds. I have had it there twice. $5000 dollars. It wont even go around the block now. I checked the midship filter and found it FULL of paint flakes. I am buying an aluminum tank to solve the issue. Please include me in the class action suit.
