FCA USA is facing a class action lawsuit claiming the 2018-2023 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited and 2020-2023 Gladiator have a defect in the clutch that can cause the vehicle to lose power in traffic or create a fire hazard.

The vehicle’s clutch pressure plate can become overheated, fracture and then allow heated debris to contact an ignition source and create a fire hazard in the vehicle, the Jeep class action claims.

“These high temperatures in turn create a failure condition that causes the vehicle to be unusable,” the Jeep clutch defect lawsuit says. “Additionally, due to the forces, materials and mechanisms involved, a malfunctioning or incorrectly designed clutch can create dangerous conditions, including fires.”

Recalls and clutch replacements haven’t fixed issue as hazard remains, Jeep class action says

Jeep has recalled the vehicles but been unable to fix the issue despite a pair of recalls that led the Jeep clutches to be replaced with “identical, failure prone units and installing ineffective software,” according to the Jeep class action.

Jeep owners have had to pay out-of-pocket expenses to repair the issues, have costs coming related to future repairs or replacements or lost value in future sales of the vehicles, the Jeep clutch defect lawsuit says.

Chrysler issued a recall earlier this month for more than 97,000 of its model year 2022-2024 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer vehicles over concerns they contain defective third-row seat belt buckles that are inaccessible or damaged.

The Jeep clutch defect class action lawsuit is Myslivecek, et al. v. FCA US LLC, Case No. 2:23-cv-12980-LVP-KGA, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.

I was driving my manual 4 door Wrangler (2021) last October on the highway. The gearshift and cluch felt weird. I heard metal fall out of the car. Pulled over and writhin minutes the jeep was engulfed in flames. I never had received any notice of a recall nor did any warning lights ever pop up on my dash.

In October of 2023 my 2020 Jeep Gladiator’s clutch exploded while my wife and I were traveling on the highway going 80 mph. I have sent emails to Stalanis about this issue and was simply said get with your insurance about getting money, my insurance paid off my Jeep but I was still left without a vehicle. I’ve talked to numerous lawyers and all of them said if you guys weren’t injured there’s nothing we can do for you. I would like to know more about this class action law suit.

Last Sept I bought my 2022 Jeep Wrangler Sport w/5,000 miles on it. It now ONLY has 8,000 miles on it, 2 weeks ago I had to have the AC condenser replaced. Tomorrow morning I’m supposed to have this new clutch replacement put in. I don’t know what to do.?. All of my life Ive wanted a 2 dr red manual jeep wrangler, after raising 4 boys- (suv/mini van days were no longer needed) at 48 I was able to get it. Not a big deal to most but it was to me. I’m SO beyond devastated… This is the second time a vehicle I’ve owned has been in a lawsuit, last one was the Nissan Sentra- it was too late, the lawsuit took place long after the fact. Whatever happened to “Quality”?! Whatever happened to give a “s—t” especially when it comes to customers/“customer service”??
I cannot trade this in or resell it, I would take a HUGE loss. I paid $42 cash and all I can get for trade is $28, this is SO corrupt on the Grand Rapids mi Fox Jeep dealerships part that sold this to me. 100%.
I don’t know what to do??? I Apologize for the long post, I’m devastated and don’t know what to do.

I have a 2021 Rubicon that is a manual transmission. The dealership received my recall part in earlier May 2024 and replaced the clutch pressure plate. From the day I picked it up, the shifting pattern was not right. It was very difficult to find the gears and was not a smooth shifting pattern as it was prior to the new pressure plate being put in. Some days were better than others. On June 19, 2024 I received a call from the dealership that there was an update to the recall that they needed to do and on June 20th I took it in for the update. Was told it was a software update. When I went to pull out of the dealership parking lot after they did the update, my jeep died when I slightly released the clutch to move from a fall stop. I had to restart and give full gas when while releasing the clutch at all. That happened every time I had to make a full stop while I circled a mile radius back to the dealership. After hours of them doing the software update 2 more times, I was told they thought it was the clutch slave cylinder that was bad and needed replaced. Was told that part would take 4 business days to get there. The following Wednesday, June 26th, they received the part and while getting ready to put the part in, they received a messaged from Chrysler to suspend the software update and they would have more info the following day. On June 27th, I was told that they had put the new clutch slave cylinder in but they had bad news for me. Apparently the software update that they did to my jeep 3 times on the 20th, was suspended and was never supposed to be done on 2021 & 2022 jeeps and they were confident that was the issue with my jeep consistently dying. It is now July 8, 2024, with no Jeep, and absolutely no communication from the dealership on what is going on with my jeep and when it will be fixed or even if it can be fixed. As you can imagine I’m beyond upset. I’m paying for a vehicle that I can’t even drive and only has 21,000 miles on it!!!!!
