Defective LG Plasma/LCD TV Class Action Lawsuit

By Mike Holter

LG ElectronicsLG Electronics has been hit with yet another class action lawsuit over its plasma and LCD TVs, this time over allegations that the televisions’ circuit boards fail prematurely.

LG has faced numerous class action lawsuits over its allegedly defective televisions over the past few years, including one filed in New Jersey District Court, and an antitrust class action settlement reached earlier this year.

According to the latest LG TV class action lawsuit, LG plasma and LCD televisions are defective because they contain circuit boards that prematurely fail during normal operation due to voltage overload, ripple current and thermal fatigue.

The LG TV defect, which was present upon delivery and manifests itself over time, ultimately results in the failure of the TVs well before the end of their expected useful life, rendering the TVs unsuitable for their intended purpose, the LG plasma and LCD TV class action lawsuit says.

The lawsuit goes on to say that LG has known about the design defect in its Plasma and LCD TVs, in part because of the numerous online complaints made by consumers. However, LG has failed to recall the defective LG TVs to fix the problem, and refuses to honor its 12-month parts-and-labor warranty on the televisions if the defect finally manifests itself after one year.

“Despite the fact that the Defect was present in the Television at the time of delivery, well within these warranty limitation periods, LG has refused to pay for labor or diagnostic expenses for consumers with Televisions manifesting the Defect more than a year after a purchase, and LG has refused to pay any part of the cost of repairing the Televisions which manifest the Defect one year after purchase,” the LG TV class action lawsuit says.

The defective LG Plasma & LCD TV class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of anyone who purchased a defective LG TV in the State of Nevada, including, but not limited to, the following models:

32LC2D
37LC2D
42LC2D
42PC3D
42PC3DV
47LC7DF
50PC3D

It is seeking damages, restitution, disgorgement and other relief for the proposed Class.

Any luck being canadian ? My lg plasma sparks burns fills room with smoke and sure seems to be ready to catch fire. I have contacted LG they were concerned and said they would look into this and seemed serious. Yet they have been avoiding my emails now for a few years and I still have tv put away in back room hoping oneday for a class action regarding fire hazard.

  4. James T. Wilbert says:

After buying a 13in. LG computer monitor, I was in the market for a new TV. So I bought a 39″ LED TV . After 2 Yrs the TV went black. No Audio, No Video. I thought it was a fluke and bought a 47″ LED. Thirteen months later THAT TV screen went blank, still had Audio.
    Went to an “Authorized” Repairman.
He charged Me $430 for both TVs to be “Repaired. His warranty was for 30 DAYS.
Lone story short-The 47″ Died 35 days later, Again. and the 39” died within a Yr.
    NEVER, EVER Buy LG products.
I learned My lesson the hard way.
How do I get My name added to ANY Class Action Suit against LG?

  5. Betty Quinn says:

I have a 65 inch LG Plasma television and smoke started rolling out of the back of it. The power cord was completely melted. I called and was told they had no other complaints of this kind and my warranty was expired so it was up to me to have it fixed. It started with the screen going black and then back on after this happened a few times was when it started smoking.

    1. Sean says:

Same here and lg seemed concerned and would do something about it to remove a possible fire hazard. Well it’s been a few years of ignoring my emails as I still have this 65 inch in storage in back room in hopes something will come out of it. What a waste of a lot of money yet could have been worse and lost my house and family due to an actual fire if I wasn’t home to catch thus issue first. Now LG could care less obviously. I haven’t purchased a thing LG since although almost everything in my house is LG unfortunately from tvs appliances and more. My dishwasher also caught fire while I was home in the doors wire harness which is a common problem as I see online yet nothing was done with that either so I tossed the dishwasher obviously as it was too big to store for years in hopes of replacement. I wasn’t holding my breath on that after tv fiasco

  6. TP petteway says:

My LG goes black and silent for a minute then comes back on . In about a hour the same thing happens again . Samsung will be next purchase

  7. Yen says:

My 2013 LG Plasma Model #50PN4500 has been malfunctioning for 3 months now. It shuts off every 5 mts, turns on after 2-5 mts, turns off if I press the volume key either in remote control or TV itself. I called the LG 1-800#, and they quoted me $250 for a repair service. I only paid $500 for it on sale online.

  8. Bryan Cantrell says:

My LG tv jus went out 2 days days ago no picture no sound. I thought LG was a top of line product guess I thought wrong. I will never purchase another LG product I only had my tv 5yrs.

    1. Linda says:

I have a 55” lg tv that powers on and off 30-40 times an hour. This is ridiculous. This has been going on for nearly a year. I have contacted LG and no help at all. There definitely needs to be a class action lawsuit very soon!

  9. Mervin Figueroa says:

Stupid LG 60UF7300 broke today and warranty expired 2 months ago…..

  10. David says:

My LG 50LN5400 died today with Black Screen as described by so many other reviews I have found today. I thought LG was a quality product but this will be my last LG product and I will spread this message to friends and family. I’ll be shopping for a Samsung tomorrow.

    1. Edward A Price Jr says:

i am having the same problem out of my LG 55i in LED tv and getting the run around from LG. I will no longer buy there products and will do research to see what other names there products go buy so as not to buy them

    2. Scott B says:

My exact model died today. This is a problem across all of their LED models and they offer no help for the poor construction of their discontinued line of TV’s.
