Checks for Classmates.com Settlement Mailed this Week

By Mike Holter

Classmates.comClass Members of the Classmates.com class action settlement are reporting their settlement checks arrived in the mail this week.

The checks are part of a $2.5 million class action lawsuit settlement reached in 2011 to resolve multiple lawsuits accusing Classmates.com of tricking people into purchasing “gold” premium memberships by sending deceptive email ads. The emails falsely told recipients they were being sought out by former schoolmates, but in order to see the friends they would have to purchase a gold membership. Once people purchased the gold memberships, they would often discover these “phantom” friends did not exist.

Class Members of the Classmates.com settlement included all persons residing in the U.S. who were registered with or subscribed to www.classmates.com at any time beginning October 30, 2004 through February 23, 2011.

Class Members had until November 18, 2011 to submit a Claim Form to receive up to $15 cash from the Classmates class action settlement.

I just got my check in the mail yesterday for $3.93. I am a little afraid to cash it though since I see that others had it returned with a fee from their bank. What a joke!

I deposited my $3.93 check and it was returned to my bank. I got hit with a $10 check return fee. Fortunately, my bank agreed to remove the charge. Thanks for nothing. All of this crap was worth way more that $3.93 of my time.

$3.93 check bounced and caused a $12.00 bounced check fee.
Which address should I visit with my baseball bat to enforce the lawyers’ debt?

I have moved several times. Did not get my check. Who do I call or write to receive it?

I got the $3.93 check too, and was told by Chase that I was unable to cash it because that’s the way the client or the account had been set up. Apparently I can deposit the check into my checking or savings account but cannot cash it. Anyone else have this issue? I’ve never heard of such a thing. May try another branch.

Also got a check for $3.93, I’ll take it! Money is money, better than nothing.

WTF!! HAHAHA. I got an email from paypal that I receieved a payment of $3.93 regarding this lawsuit. Sure enough, I checked my paypal account and see that there. Who wants to send me their $3.93 check?? Don’t waste your time cashing it, just send it to me!!
