Huggies rash class action overview:

  • Who: Four mothers are suing Kimberly-Clark, the manufacturer of Huggies diapers.
  • Why: The plaintiffs say all Huggies diapers contain a skin irritant that can cause chemical burns for babies.
  • Where: The Huggies rash class action lawsuit was filed in a Texas federal court.

Huggies diapers can give babies severe chemical burns, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Four mothers filed the class action lawsuit against Kimberly-Clark Corporation on Dec. 6 in a Texas federal court, alleging violations of state consumer laws.

It seeks redress for parents and their children for physical and financial injuries resulting from the purchase and use of all varieties of Huggies diapers, which are made by Kimberly-Clark, plaintiffs Shannon Campbell, Jessica Dionise, Melissa Desmond and Natarsha Harris say.

According to the lawsuit, Huggies diapers are liable to cause severe burns in infants because they contain a skin irritant known as Ahcovel.

Kimberly-Clark has not instituted manufacturing safeguards to ensure that the proper amounts of Ahcovel are dispensed on the diapers, the mothers say.

“Because the amount of Ahcovel on Huggies diapers is not properly regulated, they will cause burns whenever an infant has the misfortune of wearing a diaper with too much Ahcovel in it,” the lawsuit alleges.

Babies experience severe chemical burns from Huggies, lawsuit alleges

The mothers each detail allegations of the diapers giving their babies chemical burns in the Huggies lawsuit.

Plaintiff Dionise says she treated the burn as though it were diaper rash, and it began to bleed. After taking her daughter to the hospital, she was told it had turned into “a life-threatening skin ulcer with extreme scarring.” Each of the parents said, once they stopped using the Huggies diapers, the rashes and burns went away.

The plaintiffs seek to represent anyone in the United States who bought Huggies diapers, plus New York, Michigan, Georgia and Virginia subclasses of Huggies consumers.

The mothers are suing under state consumer laws and for defective design, defective manufacturing and failure to warn. They seek certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.

This is not the first class action lawsuit to be filed over Huggies diapers. A concerned mother filed a class action lawsuit in 2018 against the makers of Huggies alleging that Snug & Dry Diapers can cause a rash which requires medical attention.

  2. Priya Jessica says:

I live in the UK. A family friend is American and he purchased Huggies Little Snugglers for my Newborn from one of the Air force bases.
Whilst using them I noticed my little one getting red and sore. The soreness very quickly developed into blisters and looked like small pressure ulcers. It was awful to look at. She healed within a week of not using huggies.
I wasn’t aware that it was the huggies that caused it, I’ve only just come to realise after using alternate brands as I had run out of the huggies. We recently were given more Huggies and after just 1 use my little girl seemed really irritated and I could she seemed to be getting red. I will not be using any of the Huggies nappies again.

My grandbaby has been getting red like burns when she wets her diaper (Huggies). My daughter used wipes on her it made the burn worse baby just screamed so bad she refused to get wiped cause of the burn this causing baby to traumatized. Yesterday she was in her pool with huggies diaper on got out she suffered burned on her private area screamed again and finally got her changed and she could barely walk. I hate huggies diapers im afraid this may cause baby to experience ptsd.

My son just got a rash from these diapers. Week of July 16th. What do i do?

  5. Sierra Paulson says:

My daughter is 2 years old. Every time in the last 2 years that she has used Huggies, she becomes red and irritated and can’t even stand us to touch her. I have tried multiple different diapers, and nothing has effected her quite like this. She has slight eczema which her doctor has said makes her slightly more sensitive to things. I honestly haven used Huggies for 6-8 months and I just bought some because that’s all that’s available. 1.5 days later, my daughter is in severe pain and can’t handle anything. I couldn’t figure out what could have caused this until….. I remembered the last time she had Huggies this happened to. I’m horrified.

  6. Michelle strickland says:

My children have been using Huggies. Thai past week my little ones private and backside started becoming really red with sores. Regular diaper creams and ointments, not powders helped. I talked to the day are they said the other 3 children using Huggies diapers are experiencing the same thing right now.

    1. Stephanie Valerio says:

I just came home from the ER. I opened a brand new box of Huggies yesterday and tried one on my 2 month old baby for the first time. When I took the diaper off she had 2 big soars on her butt cheeks. They look like blisters. This morning they spread a little more and look very read and uncomfortable. The ER Doctor said it was a reaction to the diaper. Prior to this she was using parent choice and pampers brands. Never had an issue before as I change her every 2-3 h and use a diaper rash cream each time. I am never using Huggies again. They should really look into this issue as it’s hurting our babies.

  7. Bobbie Tordt says:

Huggies gave my grandson a severe rash that required emergency medical attention,I immediately quit using the Huggies as the same thing happened to my children when they were little… This company should be put out of business… Please add me as well

  8. Michelle Marks says:

My baby girl has a rash (looks like a burn) from Huggies and we’ve only used two.. I didn’t understand why she was screaming until I went to change her diaper and saw it..

    1. Samantha Clavette says:

My son has been having this issue for months and the dr. Thought it was acidic poop but it’s the diaper. I have so many photos and he’s been to the dr many times with many RX’s and the rx would work after about 3 weeks but unless I coat a thick layer of “triple paste” he has burns and blisters again within a day…. $22 a tub for that stuff….He violently shakes because it hurts so bad. I even stopped using wipes because they would peel his skin off because of the rash even when patting dry with no fragrance. The biggest problem here is no other diapers hold in his pee and they stay moist on his skin so now I have NO idea what to do because I think pampers are aweful and stay wet after they pee on their little bottoms….. you would think with the fact that cars can now drive themselves??? That they would drastically improve diapers. It’s frustrating for sensitive skin babies…smh, I’m so disappointed.

  9. Lisa yvon says:

Hey is there anyway I can join this suit? I’ve been using pampers since my baby was born & I bout a bag of huggies cause pampers was out at the store. Now she’s left with a huge rash, skin is completely raw my poor baby has been trying scoot & scratch through her pamper & you can tell she’s uncomfortable. I’ve applied a lot of Vaseline tried keeping it dry & taking her baths with oat milk but it’s not working to me! Please contact me if you see this

  10. Elizabeth Knox says:

My story is similar to others, newborn has bleeding rash/skin wiping off, no ointment helped, rash has slowly been going away since switching to a new diaper brand. Please contact me if it’s possible to join this class action.
