Huggies rash class action overview:
- Who: Four mothers are suing Kimberly-Clark, the manufacturer of Huggies diapers.
- Why: The plaintiffs say all Huggies diapers contain a skin irritant that can cause chemical burns for babies.
- Where: The Huggies rash class action lawsuit was filed in a Texas federal court.
Huggies diapers can give babies severe chemical burns, a new class action lawsuit alleges.
Four mothers filed the class action lawsuit against Kimberly-Clark Corporation on Dec. 6 in a Texas federal court, alleging violations of state consumer laws.
It seeks redress for parents and their children for physical and financial injuries resulting from the purchase and use of all varieties of Huggies diapers, which are made by Kimberly-Clark, plaintiffs Shannon Campbell, Jessica Dionise, Melissa Desmond and Natarsha Harris say.
According to the lawsuit, Huggies diapers are liable to cause severe burns in infants because they contain a skin irritant known as Ahcovel.
Kimberly-Clark has not instituted manufacturing safeguards to ensure that the proper amounts of Ahcovel are dispensed on the diapers, the mothers say.
“Because the amount of Ahcovel on Huggies diapers is not properly regulated, they will cause burns whenever an infant has the misfortune of wearing a diaper with too much Ahcovel in it,” the lawsuit alleges.
Babies experience severe chemical burns from Huggies, lawsuit alleges
The mothers each detail allegations of the diapers giving their babies chemical burns in the Huggies lawsuit.
Plaintiff Dionise says she treated the burn as though it were diaper rash, and it began to bleed. After taking her daughter to the hospital, she was told it had turned into “a life-threatening skin ulcer with extreme scarring.” Each of the parents said, once they stopped using the Huggies diapers, the rashes and burns went away.
The plaintiffs seek to represent anyone in the United States who bought Huggies diapers, plus New York, Michigan, Georgia and Virginia subclasses of Huggies consumers.
The mothers are suing under state consumer laws and for defective design, defective manufacturing and failure to warn. They seek certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
This is not the first class action lawsuit to be filed over Huggies diapers. A concerned mother filed a class action lawsuit in 2018 against the makers of Huggies alleging that Snug & Dry Diapers can cause a rash which requires medical attention.

I am in Australia and since my granddaughter started wearing Huggies pull ups she’s constantly got blistering and severe redness over the entire nappy area to the point she screams in pain and can’t sit down. We have tried so many nappy rash creams and nothing works. Now I am concerned that it’s not nappy rash. How do companies get away with this ?
My daughter is 2 years old and had been using Huggies diapers since she was born but this time when I changed her from the diapers to the pull ups I recently just noticed after using those pull up for 2 days It left my daughter with a horrible rash her skin was peeling of her thighs she was bleeding it looks like she has burns
My 1 year old daughter just had a second degree burn over both of her buttocks and down into the crease between her buttcheeks. I’ve been told multiple times by my pediatrician that it couldn’t possibly be a chemical burn from huggies, because it’s simply a “myth”. Well, after seeing her literally bleed when I was cleaning her up I threw out all huggies and bought pampers. Pediatrician be damned, I was a medic in the Army for 6 years and an EMT for almost 10. I know a burn when I see one. Not a single rash since then, only her skin finally starting to heal itself. This is honestly grotesque that huggies are still allowed to be sold. My daughter might have permenant scarring on her buttocks and vagina because of their carelessness and recklessness.
My daughter and my neice both have gotten sever rashes from the pull ups. it only took 3 days from the switch for the rash to occur. They never get rashes and they are also potty training so for they only wear them at night and are usally pretty dry in the morning.
We have used Huggies for 16 months now and yes we get rashes all the time and didn’t realize this is what it was caused from would like to be a part of the class action lawsuit
