Huggies rash class action overview:

  • Who: Four mothers are suing Kimberly-Clark, the manufacturer of Huggies diapers.
  • Why: The plaintiffs say all Huggies diapers contain a skin irritant that can cause chemical burns for babies.
  • Where: The Huggies rash class action lawsuit was filed in a Texas federal court.

Huggies diapers can give babies severe chemical burns, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Four mothers filed the class action lawsuit against Kimberly-Clark Corporation on Dec. 6 in a Texas federal court, alleging violations of state consumer laws.

It seeks redress for parents and their children for physical and financial injuries resulting from the purchase and use of all varieties of Huggies diapers, which are made by Kimberly-Clark, plaintiffs Shannon Campbell, Jessica Dionise, Melissa Desmond and Natarsha Harris say.

According to the lawsuit, Huggies diapers are liable to cause severe burns in infants because they contain a skin irritant known as Ahcovel.

Kimberly-Clark has not instituted manufacturing safeguards to ensure that the proper amounts of Ahcovel are dispensed on the diapers, the mothers say.

“Because the amount of Ahcovel on Huggies diapers is not properly regulated, they will cause burns whenever an infant has the misfortune of wearing a diaper with too much Ahcovel in it,” the lawsuit alleges.

Babies experience severe chemical burns from Huggies, lawsuit alleges

The mothers each detail allegations of the diapers giving their babies chemical burns in the Huggies lawsuit.

Plaintiff Dionise says she treated the burn as though it were diaper rash, and it began to bleed. After taking her daughter to the hospital, she was told it had turned into “a life-threatening skin ulcer with extreme scarring.” Each of the parents said, once they stopped using the Huggies diapers, the rashes and burns went away.

The plaintiffs seek to represent anyone in the United States who bought Huggies diapers, plus New York, Michigan, Georgia and Virginia subclasses of Huggies consumers.

The mothers are suing under state consumer laws and for defective design, defective manufacturing and failure to warn. They seek certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.

This is not the first class action lawsuit to be filed over Huggies diapers. A concerned mother filed a class action lawsuit in 2018 against the makers of Huggies alleging that Snug & Dry Diapers can cause a rash which requires medical attention.

  10. Christina Vink says:

My daughter would ALWAYS have a rash as an infant, I would change her at every little bodily function she had, she never ever sat in her diaper even when she was sleeping and I used Huggies thinking it was the best because it’s a huge name brand. What a mistake. I was more often than not treating what I believed to be a rash that was in fathomable basically impossible to be there with how many times a day we changed her.
