Class Members of the Sylvania headlight class action lawsuit, which alleges the company falsely advertised the efficacy of their headlights, are reporting that they are receiving Sylvania class action settlement checks in the mail.

The settlement checks stem from a false advertising class action lawsuit against Osram Sylvania Inc. This headlight class action lawsuit, originally filed in 2011 by plaintiff Imran Chaudhri, alleges the manufacturer overstated the life expectancy, road visibility, and brightness of their premium Sylvania brand-name headlights, including SilverStar, XtraVision, or Cool Blue replacement headlight capsules, sealed beam headlights, or fog lights.

During the Class Period from Sept. 22, 2005 to July 11, 2014, the Sylvania headlight class action lawsuit claims the company sold 60 million replacement headlines featuring advertising and marketing claims that Sylvania brand headlights are brighter, deliver a wider beam, and allow drivers to see farther ahead than competing halogen headlights. However, according to the plaintiff, these Sylvania replacement headlights cost twice as much as their halogen counterparts and also have a shorter life, a detail that the complaint alleges the company neglected to tell consumers.

Sylvania denies all wrongdoing in regards to the allegations brought against the company in this Sylvania headlights class action lawsuit, but it has agreed to settle the case in order to avoid further court costs and the uncertainty of continued litigation.

The proposed Sylvania headlights class action settlement was given preliminary approval in July of last year by U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo, who also gave her final approval for the Sylvania class action settlement earlier this year in March.

Sylvania headlights Class Members were expected to receive $10 checks from the Sylvania class action settlement, though the amount could be increased depending on the number of eligible claim forms submitted. As previously stated, some Class Members have reported receiving checks for $11.70 in the mail.
