USC Scandal settlementThe University of Southern California recently announced that it reached a $215 million class action settlement with the alleged victims of a former university gynecologist.

This settlement only settles class action lawsuit claims filed against USC over the sexual assault allegations against Dr. George Tyndall. It does not settle individual USC sexual assault lawsuits that were filed by victims.

The payout for this USC settlement ranges from $2,500 to $250,000. The $2,500 payout is for Class Members who were patients of Tyndall, but do not want to provide additional information about their sexual assault experience.

Those who are willing to detail the sexual assault by Tyndall may receive $7,500 to $20,000.

USC scandal victims who are able to provide additional documentation and submit themselves to an interview with a licensed psychologist may receive up to $250,000.

According to an analysis by The Los Angeles Times, sexual assault victims at other universities have received much larger payouts.

For example, an employee at the University of California at Berkley who claimed sexual harassment by a professor received $1.7 million. A student at University of California at Santa Cruz received $1.15 million to settle sexual assault allegation.

If you were sexually assaulted by Tyndall and you want to be sure that this settlement is the best option for you, you may submit your information on this page for more information.

USC Scandal Class Action Settlement

On October 19, USC Interim President Wanda M. Austin announced in a school-wide letter that the university had reached a $215 million settlement benefiting thousands of women who were allegedly sexually assaulted by George Tyndall, a former university gynecologist.

“A fair and respectful resolution for as many former patients as possible has been a priority for the university,” Austin wrote in her statement. “Many sweeping changes have been made and we continue to work every day to prevent all forms of misconduct on our campuses.”

The USC sexual assault class action was originally filed in June 2018 by 15 women alleging that Tyndall sexually assaulted hundreds of women during his time at USC. Tyndall allegedly made inappropriate comments to women during their exams, touched women in inappropriate and medically unnecessary ways, and sexually assaulted his patients in other ways.

Women in the class action also accused USC of mishandling the situation. According to the class action, the USC health center received multiple reports about Tyndall’s behavior but concealed the reports to avoid a scandal. The plaintiffs also claim that nurses and chaperones were always in the room during Tyndall’s examinations, but failed to follow up on his inappropriate behavior.

After reports of racially insensitive comments and sexual misconduct, Tyndall was set to be fired from the university in 2017. However, after threatening legal action, he was allowed to “quietly resign” from his position and was paid a financial settlement. Plaintiffs claim that the university did this in an attempt to conceal Tyndall’s actions and prevent a potential scandal.

The USC Sexual Assault Class Action is Doe A.T. et al. v. University of Southern California et al., Case No. 2:18cv4940, in the U.S. District Court for Central California.
