George Tyndall, the disgraced USC gynecologist, faces a class action USC sexual assault lawsuit from 15 women alleging that he sexually assaulted “hundreds, if not thousands” of women.

In June 2018, 14 anonymous women and one named former USC student filed a class action USC sexual assault lawsuit against George Tyndall and the university. The class action USC sexual assault lawsuit alleges that Tyndall used his position as a USC gynecologist to sexually assault countless women and that the university failed to hold him accountable after his behavior was reported.

“Tyndall violated [patient] trust by causing physical contact, including in the form of sexual abuse, molestation, and unwanted touching, in violation of his female patients that was not for the purpose of providing medical care, but for the purpose of providing Tyndall with sexual gratification,” the class action USC sexual assault lawsuit claims.

Women have accused Tyndall of touching them inappropriately and medically unnecessary ways in addition to making sexually charged comments about their bodies and genitals. As early as the 1990s, women have reported Tyndall’s inappropriate behavior and comments.

In 2008, the named plaintiff in the class action USC sexual assault lawsuit, Meggie Kwait, was allegedly criticized by Tyndall regarding her sexual orientation. He allegedly suggested that she lose weight so she could “get a guy instead of a girlfriend.”

The women in the class action USC sexual assault lawsuit also seek to hold various USC defendants accountable including USC and the USC board of trustees. According to the complaint, countless USC employees knew or should have known about Tyndall’s behavior but did not do anything to stop it. Other allegations claim that Tyndall’s behavior was reported, but was concealed by a former health center director in order to avoid a scandal.

“USC violated its female students’ trust by knowingly putting women in the room for treatment by Tyndall, knowing that inappropriate physical contact and violations would occur,” the class action USC sexual assault lawsuit says. “In fact, USC nurses, chaperones, and other staff members were regularly present in the examination rooms, observed the inappropriate sexual molestation, and took no steps to stop it as it occurred.”

The class action USC sexual assault lawsuit was filed two weeks after four anonymous women made similar claims in a state class action lawsuit. As more legal action is taken against the disgraced doctor, more women are coming forward with their own experiences. The scandal has even caused USC president C.L. Max Nikias to step down from his position.

“Each day we have more and more victims reaching out regarding their experiences,” said the plaintiffs’ counsel. “We expect USC to be held accountable for being present when Dr. Tyndall was abusing students while pretending ignorance.”

The USC Sexual Assault Lawsuit is Doe A.T. et al. v. University of Southern California et al., Case No. 2:18-cv-4940 in the U.S. District Court for Central California.
