Toothpaste recall overview:
- Who: Pritam International Private Limited is recalling more than 4 million tubes of toothpaste.
- Why: The recall is due to deviations from Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP).
- Where: The recall is effective across the United States.
Pritam International, based in Haridwara, India, has initiated a voluntary recall of more than 4 million toothpaste tubes distributed under the Brush Buddies, Evo and ARU brands.
The recall affects a wide range of toothpaste products, including those marketed for children featuring popular characters, such as Barbie, Hot Wheels and My Little Pony. Each product is linked to specific lot numbers and expiration dates, with the recall encompassing a total of 17 different product variations.
The affected products include various flavors, such as bubble gum, strawberry and peppermint, among others. Also included are two Evo products marketed for whitening and sensitivity and two ARU toothpastes targeting gum health and cavity protection.
The toothpaste recall was initiated due to CGMP deviations, which are standards set to ensure the safety and quality of drug manufacturing.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified the recall as a Class II on Oct. 19, indicating that the products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, although the probability of serious health issues is remote.
Recall: Consumers should return or dispose of affected toothpaste products
Pritam International is taking steps to address the issue by notifying distributors and retailers through multiple channels, including email, fax and telephone.
Consumers are encouraged to return the products to the place of purchase or dispose of them. For more information, consumers can visit the FDA’s website.
So far, there are no reports of illness or injury related to the recall. Pritam International is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In other safety concerns, a consumer is suing Church & Dwight, claiming it misled consumers into believing its Orajel Naturals toothpaste products were free of synthetic ingredients and suitable for young children.
