Zithromax heart side effects

Study shows Zithromax side effects increase the risk of heart attack and sudden cardiac death in some users.

When a 14-year study revealed that the popular antibiotic Zithromax can cause heart problems, including heart attacks, the information spread like wildfire. CBS and Harvard both quickly picked up the story, warning patients who had come to depend on the drug for everything from bronchitis to ear infections about these potential Zithromax side effects.

Since antibiotics are prescribed to all ages of people, anyone could become a victim—but Zithromax is most dangerous for those with existing heart problems. But what if a person isn’t aware they have a heart condition, the doctor doesn’t ask about heart conditions, or the patient forgets to mention it? That’s a lot riding on a small amount of information.

For those who are concerned about the potential side effects of Zithromax, all it takes is a little word of mouth.

“Within a few hours, having taken two pills on day one, I started to feel anxious. It was the worst feeling ever, like I was having a heart attack,” says one anonymous 21-year-old female patient in an online forum for Zithromax problems.

“I went to the ER on the third day,” she continues. “I’m glad that I researched the antibiotic and that I’m not alone. I will never take this medication again.”

For other Zithromax users, it’s already too late. Zithromax can cause permanent damage and death, even in young children. A 44-year-old female patient who took Zithromax for a sinus infection lists her symptoms as, “heart palpitations, chest pain, pain in shoulders, neck and back, woozy, weak randomly, feel very weird, tired and horrible, thought I was having a heart attack at times, thought I was going to faint or fall at times.”

Heart attacks don’t always happen like in films—some people can easily go about their day, barely noticing the pain in their chest. However, the damage being done may be irreparable.

A 26-year-old woman taking Zithromax for upper respiratory issues says she experienced “brain fog, muscle cramps in legs and calves, dehydration and heart palpitations.”

People are filing Zithromax lawsuits in record numbers, finally becoming aware of the link between their (or their loved one’s) heart attack and the antibiotic. At the core of these Zithromax  lawsuits is the many allegations that the drug causes heart problems. They claim that the warnings on the drug aren’t adequate, and they thought it was safe to take something as mainstream as an antibiotic. Their physicians were also unaware of the risks, these lawsuits claim.

One 50-year-old man taking Zithromax for a sinus infection says he experienced “anxiety, depression, body pain/aches, heart palpitations and insomnia”—and that was just the beginning of his Zithromax side effects.

While many doctors in general agree that antibiotics are overprescribed, that does little to comfort the people who experience horrific Zithromax complications like irregular heart rhythms. Another 43-year-old woman who took Z-Pak for pneumonia also lists heart palpitations as part of her symptoms, while a 52-year-old man taking it for chlamydia says he experienced “a thumping of the heart” and said, “My heart would suddenly race at any sudden sound… my heart lightly thumping for brief periods.”

These may all be signs of more serious heart issues, perhaps even a heart attack. The maker of the drug, according to Zithromax victims, chose not to include this information since the drug shot to popularity because it’s only required to be taken for five days instead of the usual nine or ten.

Stories of Zithromax Heart Problems Pour In

A simple Internet search of “Zithromax stories” shows there’s a long list of Zithromax complaints and stories from those who experienced terrifying heart problems while taking the drug.

One 28-year-old woman who took Z-Pak for PID lists “diarrhea, heart palpitations, and numbness of the body as if I’m in a state of shock.”

A 32-year-old man says his heart was pounding and his chest was racing when he took the antibiotic for chlamydia.

“Crazy heart palps,” says a 49-year-old woman taking it for sinusitis. “I will never take this poison again—I just hope I will get over these crazy side effects!”

Zithromax shot to popularity because it’s strong, effective, doesn’t take as long of a regimen as other antibiotics and physicians thought it was safe. According to Z-Pak victims, the warning labels simply aren’t adequate and they feel tricked into taking the drug when there are many other options on the market.

Took my first dose of Z-pack about 3 hours ago for bronchitis.
About an hour after taking it I laid down to nap only to wake 20 minutes later writhing with stomach pain, heart palpitations, sweating, and nausea. My normal heart rate while resting is 65-70 bpm. When I sat up my Fitbit showed 104 bpm. But I had been sleeping!
I felt like I was dying.
Fast forward to now and I am sitting in the parking lot of the ER wondering if I need to go in. I still don’t feel good but my heart rate is somewhat back to normal.
I had no idea this antibiotic had these side effects! The box only says diarrhea and nausea.
Heart issues should be FRONT AND CENTER! Had I known I would never have taken this poison!
I’m now concerned about this being in my body for the next two weeks.

    1. Vani Narayanan says:

Hi, did your heart rate go back to normal after 2 weeks?

  2. Zaria Eubanks says:

I’m 17 year old female and just got diagnosed with strep throat, they prescribed me Z-pak, First day f using it I had mild nausea until night time came in my heart started pounding through my chest, haven’t took a dosage since.

  3. Cassandra Carr says:

I’m a 38 yr old woman that was prescribed the Zpac while admitted to the hospital for long standing pneumonia that I just couldn’t seem to get past. The first 2 pills I was given I noticed shortly after taking, that I had some anxiety and mild palpitations. I’ve had palpitations in the past, but they’ve lessened greatly to the point of almost not happening now. So it’s obvious when you have an increase heart palpitations.
I had a difficult time getting to sleep that night, and my Blood pressure was very low too at 98/47. The following day I was given another 2 pills at about 8 AM and noticed while showering, Within an hour of taking this next set of pills that my heart was racing and I was short of breath. I mentioned this to the staff, but they thought it was more related to my lack of motion from being sick so long, that I needed to adjust to normal activity. I was also noticing palpitations at that time. My blood pressure continued to stay low at 97/60 when they took it early that AM.
At about 12 PM that same day, I was released to go home, after a 4 day stay. I noticed once home, doing minor cleaning, making a bed etc..that I was short of breath again with a racing heartbeat. I sat down and let it pass, but it continued to race whenever I did anything much. I was so tired I took a nap, noticing palpitations. That night while getting ready for bed, laying with my husband, I noticed several palpitations, also noting anxiety. I continued to have palpitations throughout the night.
This morning I’m having shortness of breath, lethargy and palpitations still.
I’ve reached out to the hospital about my symptoms after finding so many others are experiencing these same symptoms after taking just a few doses of Azithromycin aka the Zpac.
This is scary. I don’t know why I wasn’t just prescribed Amoxicillin, I don’t have any issues taking that, nor am I bothered with the longer timeframe to need to take it.
I wish I’d have been informed, when I asked about side effects, that this can happen, heart racing and palpitations, and also when I mentioned my symptoms, That they would have noted and switched my prescription.
A simple Google search and I found this information easily. Noting the FDA has placed a warning about such side effects.
    This is scary, and unnecessary.

    1. Vani says:

      Hi

Did it ever stop? I’m at the hospital with 130bpm after taking azithromycin. Please help

  4. Joelma McCann says:

I was prescribed zpack for upper respiratory infection, on the third day I was taking it I had crazy racing heart up to 150 bpm. It was so scary, gave me horrible anxiety. I didn’t even finish taking it. Never again.

    1. Vani Narayanan says:

      Hi

did your heart rate go back to normal by it’s own ?

      Thank you

      1. Vani Narayanan says:

I have the same results as well and now I’m diagnosed with TB, I have to start my TB medication. I took it for 5 days and the first day I had heart palpitations and then after the medication for a week my heart rate is 133. Will it go back to normal after 2 weeks?

        1. Tj says:

          What is TB?

  5. Dwight says:

I have similar symptoms as I am getting palpitations at night and cannot sleep and I’m scared to finish. The worst thing is that I see that people are suffering for months. I went to the hospital where they made me aware of this drugs affects.
