Zithromax heart side effects

Study shows Zithromax side effects increase the risk of heart attack and sudden cardiac death in some users.

When a 14-year study revealed that the popular antibiotic Zithromax can cause heart problems, including heart attacks, the information spread like wildfire. CBS and Harvard both quickly picked up the story, warning patients who had come to depend on the drug for everything from bronchitis to ear infections about these potential Zithromax side effects.

Since antibiotics are prescribed to all ages of people, anyone could become a victim—but Zithromax is most dangerous for those with existing heart problems. But what if a person isn’t aware they have a heart condition, the doctor doesn’t ask about heart conditions, or the patient forgets to mention it? That’s a lot riding on a small amount of information.

For those who are concerned about the potential side effects of Zithromax, all it takes is a little word of mouth.

“Within a few hours, having taken two pills on day one, I started to feel anxious. It was the worst feeling ever, like I was having a heart attack,” says one anonymous 21-year-old female patient in an online forum for Zithromax problems.

“I went to the ER on the third day,” she continues. “I’m glad that I researched the antibiotic and that I’m not alone. I will never take this medication again.”

For other Zithromax users, it’s already too late. Zithromax can cause permanent damage and death, even in young children. A 44-year-old female patient who took Zithromax for a sinus infection lists her symptoms as, “heart palpitations, chest pain, pain in shoulders, neck and back, woozy, weak randomly, feel very weird, tired and horrible, thought I was having a heart attack at times, thought I was going to faint or fall at times.”

Heart attacks don’t always happen like in films—some people can easily go about their day, barely noticing the pain in their chest. However, the damage being done may be irreparable.

A 26-year-old woman taking Zithromax for upper respiratory issues says she experienced “brain fog, muscle cramps in legs and calves, dehydration and heart palpitations.”

People are filing Zithromax lawsuits in record numbers, finally becoming aware of the link between their (or their loved one’s) heart attack and the antibiotic. At the core of these Zithromax  lawsuits is the many allegations that the drug causes heart problems. They claim that the warnings on the drug aren’t adequate, and they thought it was safe to take something as mainstream as an antibiotic. Their physicians were also unaware of the risks, these lawsuits claim.

One 50-year-old man taking Zithromax for a sinus infection says he experienced “anxiety, depression, body pain/aches, heart palpitations and insomnia”—and that was just the beginning of his Zithromax side effects.

While many doctors in general agree that antibiotics are overprescribed, that does little to comfort the people who experience horrific Zithromax complications like irregular heart rhythms. Another 43-year-old woman who took Z-Pak for pneumonia also lists heart palpitations as part of her symptoms, while a 52-year-old man taking it for chlamydia says he experienced “a thumping of the heart” and said, “My heart would suddenly race at any sudden sound… my heart lightly thumping for brief periods.”

These may all be signs of more serious heart issues, perhaps even a heart attack. The maker of the drug, according to Zithromax victims, chose not to include this information since the drug shot to popularity because it’s only required to be taken for five days instead of the usual nine or ten.

Stories of Zithromax Heart Problems Pour In

A simple Internet search of “Zithromax stories” shows there’s a long list of Zithromax complaints and stories from those who experienced terrifying heart problems while taking the drug.

One 28-year-old woman who took Z-Pak for PID lists “diarrhea, heart palpitations, and numbness of the body as if I’m in a state of shock.”

A 32-year-old man says his heart was pounding and his chest was racing when he took the antibiotic for chlamydia.

“Crazy heart palps,” says a 49-year-old woman taking it for sinusitis. “I will never take this poison again—I just hope I will get over these crazy side effects!”

Zithromax shot to popularity because it’s strong, effective, doesn’t take as long of a regimen as other antibiotics and physicians thought it was safe. According to Z-Pak victims, the warning labels simply aren’t adequate and they feel tricked into taking the drug when there are many other options on the market.

I had pneumonia in April 2018 (first time in my life I got sick like that following a bad upper respiratory infection) I was prescribed a ZPack. Have had arrhythmia since and can’t get rid of it. I am beyond miserable. I used to be an early riser on the elliptical for an hour fort thing in the am followed by yoga. Now I can barely get up in the am because my heart is pounding and skipping as soon as I lay down. Never had heart problems. I was a healthy active woman. What is happening to me???

I’ve been doing a lot of research about this. I took the Zpak last December and I’m still having problems. My heart feels like it’s jumping out of my chest, I feel horrible anxiety all the time, I feel like I’m just not myself anymore. I’m 28 years old and told my doctor he said it was normal and I went to a heart doctor and he couldn’t find anything either, did a whole bunch of bloodwork and it came back normal. I really just want to stop feeling this way and feel normal again. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

I had pneumonia and was prescribed Zpak and 3 months later I am still having heart palpitations at night when trying to sleep. Ever since I have taken this awful medication, my sleep has not been the same as I continue to have trouble sleeping because I had taken this horrible drug. I was fine before I used it and now I will never again be the same. They should pay for the pain they have caused people

Be careful of what you take as a medicine.

  7. Victoria says:

Sore throat, red, inflamed tonsils and felt sickly for two weeks. Finally went to Dr. yesterday. Strep and tonsillitis. Prescribed my very first Z-pack. Took 2 as directed last night. Other than insomnia and a bit of a stomach ache, I felt okay. Took 1 more today after eating a light dinner. Within an hour, severe anxiety and racing heart. Took a Bayer aspirin just in case. Calling my Dr. tomorrow morning and will NOT take the other 3 pills. Never had an issue with amoxycillin……just took a short walk and feel very out of breath? Never again.

My wife had been a regular user of
z-paks. Each time she used them she seemed to feel anxious and eventually started having heart palpitations. The heart palpitations kept getting worse until she started doing research on what might be causing them. She came accross the Harvard study and then it all made sense. She had been seeing a cardiolgist and it looks like she will have to have a cardio ablasion surgery in an attempt to keep her heart from palpitating. She continued to get worse even though she had been put on a beta blocker to attempt to help palpitations. The palpitations have gotten so bad she has shortness of breath and is extremely uncomfortable like her heart is beating out of her chest. We have z-paks to thank for that. This is going to cost us a fortune!! I feel like my wife is pradticsllt disabled now. Just a little bit of excercisr name breathing harder and palpitations way stronger. Don’t risk your health by taking a z-pak!

    1. Megan Werlein says:

I’m sorry about your wife, I hope she feels better. I’m going through the same thing. Just wanted to ask did the surgery work? Thank you
